  Notes	Mary Kaye McDonald August 29, 1947 ? July 18, 2024 The Earth lost its kindest soul last week and heaven gained an angel when Mary Kaye McDonald was welcomed home to the arms of her savior on Thursday, July 18, 2024. She is sorely missed by those who are left behind, her beloved husband of nearly 60 years, Michael McDonald; and five children: Michelle (and husband, Paul Cortez) of Albuquerque, NM, Patrick (and wife, Susanne) of Coburg, Germany, Daniel (and wife, Elizabeth) of Lawton, OK, Katharine (and husband, Michael Hodges) of Aledo, TX, and David (and wife Melakeh) of Denton, TX. She is also survived by her brother, John Soukup of Lincoln; and eleven grandchildren: Alexander, Isabella, Jackson, Caroline, Hudson, Natalie, Rosie, Amelia, Everly, Everett and Easton; seven nieces and five nephews; and numerous cousins and friends. Mary Kaye was born August 29, 1947, in Milligan, NE to Elmer and Jeanette Soukup. Some of her happiest memories were spent playing with her many cousins in Milligan and the surrounding area. The family relocated to Lincoln when she was nine. She attended Blessed Sacrament Catholic School and graduated from St. Pius High School. She met Mike during high school, and they married in 1966 and they remained in Lincoln before moving to Dallas, TX where Mike attended seminary. Mary Kaye loved spending time with friends, her children and her adoring grandchildren. In her early life, she loved crafting. She made her children's clothes and doll clothes. She made award-winning gingerbread houses, blankets, activity books and the best homemade cinnamon rolls anyone ever tasted. She gardened and canned for years. She loved making friends and maintaining her many friendships, some of which she held for over fifty years. She loved attending Bible study with women of many faiths. In her later life, when she wasn't travelling the country visiting her children and grandchildren, she was busy playing bridge and enjoyed winning most games. She also wrote a book, entitled "My Angels" which will be published posthumously. Mary Kaye never met a person who didn't wish to be her friend. She loved her friends, her family and her God. A memorial service honoring Mary Kaye will be held September 14, 2024, at 11:00 am at Indian Hills Community Church. (From the LIncoln Journal Star, July 28, 2024, courtesy of Dennis Belohlavy)
