  Notes	SABINE COUNTY REPORTER June 5, 2002 DAPHNE BASS Daphne Bass, 76, of Hemphill passed away Friday, May 31, 2002, at Sabine County Hospital in Hemphill. Mrs. Bass was born in Center on Aug. 22, 1925, as a daughter of the late Elbert F. Johnson Sr and Julia Oates Johnson. She had lived in Hemphill since 1944. She and her husband operated N.P. Bass Logging for 53 years. She was also co-owner of Bass & Son Grocery in Hemphill for 26 years. She was a faithful and active member of East Mayfield Baptist Church where she served in numerous offices and committees. She was also a member of the Hemphill Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star where she served as Worthy Matron and many other positions. Survivors: her husband of 57 years, Norman Bass of Hemphill; a daughter Vicky Procella and husband, Joe of Hemphill; a brother, E.F. Johnson Jr. of Mesquite; a sister, Fae Elliott of Center; a sister-in-law, Thelma Henderson of Hemphill; and Lana Fults of Hemphill. Funeral services were held Sunday, June 2, at 2 pm at the Star Funeral Home chapel in Hemphill, with Bro. Vernon Watts and Bro. Glenn D. Morton officiating. Interment followed at Springhill Cemetery in Sabine County. Deacons of East Mayfield Baptist Church served as pallbearers. (Transcribed by Melinda McLemore Strong)
