- Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Collins, 93, a citizen of the Verda and Mt. Zion communities almost all her life, were held at the Mt. Zion Church at 3 p.m. Monday, April 17, 1950, with the Rev. M. E. Mercer and Rev. Lula Wardlow officiating. Interment was in Mt. Zion Cemetery under direction of Hixson Funeral Home.
Mrs. Collins, widow of the late J. W. Collins, was born May 23, 1856 at Meridian, Miss., and moved to Winn Parish at an early age. She was a member of the Mt. Zion Church.
Surviving are two sons, Richard W. of Palmetto, La., and Weaver of Montgomery; four daughters, Miss Lila and Eva Collins of Montgomery, and Mrs. Esma C. Drewett of Downey, Calif. and Mrs. Imogene Lang of Winnsboro; one brother, Charles McLamore of Garrison, Texas; two sisters, Mrs. Houston Till of Pollock and Mrs. Malissa Dick of Baton Rouge.
Pallbearers were Lonnie Young, L. O. Jones, Fred Mixon, Preston Wallace, R. B. Lang, and Jules McLamore.
