- Robert Cecil McDaniel, a descendant, wrote in his autobiography that "My McDaniel ancestors migrated west from the Edgefield District near Spartanburg, South Carolina, and apparently stopped for a time in Mississippi. They were enumerated in the federal census of 1850, both in Itwambia County, Mississippi, and in Sabine County, Texas." He also indicated that they settled in the community later to be known as Fairdale, in the southeastern part of Sabine County.
