- Floyd Howard Smith, age 91, Lincoln, died July 30, 2010 in Lincoln. Floyd was born in Haddam, Kan., May 2, 1919 to Howard and Mildred (Fencel) Smith. He was united in marriage to Margaret Durst on December 17, 1944 in Washington, Kan. They established their first home in rural Kansas and began farming. They later moved to Lincoln, where Floyd was employed by the Burlington Northern Railroad at the Havelock shops as a carman. He retired from Burlington-Northern Railroad after 38 years, however his love for trains never ceased.
He is survived by: wife Margaret; daughters, Marilyn Schulter, Janice Soukup (Allen), both of Lincoln; son, Steven Smith (Donna) of Kearney, Neb.; Grandchildren, John Schulter (Helen) of Point Pleasant, N.J., Kelsey Soukup (Lana), Jessica Soukup, Paige Smith, and Jacob Smith, all of Lincoln; four great grandchildren; sister, Ella West of Haddam, Kan.
A private graveside service for family will be held at a later date. Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 South 14th Street, Lincoln, NE. Condolences may be left at lincolnfh.com.
