Richard Strickland to Elizabeth McKewn (sic) on 25 Apr 1832 Madison County, GA
RESEARCH NOTES:
A Richard and Elizabeth Strickland Family can be found on the 1850 through 1870 US Census in Florida. He was born ca 1812 in Georgia, and she between 1820 and 1825 in North Carolina or Georgia.
In 1850 they were in Walton County, Florida, with children Julia, Martha, James, Robert, Joseph, Simeon and Joel. In 1870, they were in Santa Rosa County, with children Julian, Martha, James, Robert, Simeon and Joseph. Based on Elizabeth's age (too young to have married in 1832 in Georgia) this is likely a different family altogether.
The fact that the Richard and Elizabeth Strickland family (of Mississippi) iss different from the Richard and Elizabeth Strickland family (of Florida, as noted above, was confirmed by a descendant of the Mississippi couple, Cynthia Ranucci. On March 6, 2023, she emailed me: "You mention that the Richard and Elizabeth Strickland in Florida is most likely not the Richard and Elizabeth Strickland in Tishomingo County, Mississippi. You are correct in that assumption. I just wanted to affirm that from personal knowledge supplied to me by family members years ago. My great-great grandfather, Ancil Strickland, was the last child of the Mississippi Richard and Elizabeth Strickland, born in 1852 in Glen, Mississippi. I too have 2 Strickland lines, but both descend from Jacob, Solomon's brother (if I remember correctly--my genealogy papers have been in storage......"
