Married:
- Wynema McGrew states that they were married by William Barton, JP, with John T. Moran as Security.
According to THE SOUTHERN McGREWS GREW, Mary Elizabeth de Castro was born circa 1796 in Alabama and was married to a first cousin, once removed. William McGrew (b.1783 in SC to William McGrew) on 6 September 1824 in Marengo Co, AL. Her brother, Alexander, had married William's sister in law earlier in the year. On 6 September 1826, she and William made a deed of gift to their only daughter, Mary Ann Elizabeth De Castro McGrew, of all their wordly possessions after they had ceased using them. They had at least two more children. William was mentioned in his father's will in 1823, and in the will of his brother Nesbit in September 1830. It is supposed that they divorced in the early 1840's, and that she married second William C. Knight on 4 Mar 1842 in Marengo Co, AL. William McGrew was living with a woman named Hannah (born 1808 in SC) on the 1850 census.
Wynema McGrew writes that on this same Census, William Knight was living with a 27 year old Jane, along with two children under the age of two. Mary Elizabeth was dead, divorced or had left Knight at least.
