| Benkelman, Adam and Catharina (Schaufele) 1851 Marriage, B?rtlingen, W?rttemberg, Germany German Church Family Registery. This shows Adam's birthdates and marriage dates, as well as his parents. However, the name on the right hand side of the card, under "hausmutter" is difficult to read. His wife was Anna Catharina Schaufele. The date above her name is certainly incorrect.
PLEASE CONTACT US IF YOU CAN HELP INTERPRET THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE CARD.

| Benkelman, Adam and Catherine Family Plot Status: Located; This marker was engraved on all four sides, with trees planted eight to ten feet out on either side of the marker. The engraving on the granite is very difficult to read, however, the four names engraved upon it are still legible, and are for Adam Benkelman, his wife, Catherine, and two of their daughters-in-law who died shortly after marriage, Lydia Striffler, the wife of Samuel Benkelman and Rosina Wahl, the wife of John Adam Benkelman. This marker was likely erected in 1886, when Rosina died.

| Benkelman, Benjamin F. Sr. ca 1870's (Thought to be) This was in a group of tintypes originally belonging to Louisa Benkelman Schwegler. These tintypes appear to be of Louisa and her brothers, all children of Adam and Catherine Benkelman of Cass City. Alvin Benkelman, Jr., a great grandson of of Adam and Catherine, believes this to be a photo of their son Benjamin Franklin Benkelman Sr. This is based on his comparison to other family and group photos owned and labeled by his late father, Alvin Benkelman Sr. However, based on Marjory Schwegler Battel's identificaton of the various Benkelman sons from a group photo taken around the same time period, it is possible that this might instead be Ben's older brother, William.

| Benkelman, Benjamin Franklin Jr. ca 1919 --Kalamazoo College Football Team, MIAA Champions In High School, Ben was a star athlete. He was on the baseball, basketball, football, and track teams--four years each, earning a total of 16 letters. He went to Kalamazoo College on a football scholarship. They were the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Champions in 1919. The MIAA is the Nation's oldest collegiate conference. Ben recalls that one of the games he played was against "the Gipper," the legendary George Gipp of the University of Notre Dame. After a year of college, he returned to Cass City to help his parents close their general store. Ben is on the front row, seated, and is the fifth player from the right hand side (seventh from the left). Jason Mann, a collector of vintage sports team photos, purchased an identical copy of this photo on Ebay. His copy has a roster of the players, as well as the results for 1919 season, written on the back. A scan of this identifying information follows.

| Benkelman, Charles A photo from the collection of Louisa Benkelman Schwegler, labeled Charles Benkelman. Based on the age of this photo, this is likely of her cousin Charles Benkelman (born 1866) of Denver, Colorado, the son of her Uncle George. It is possible, however, that it might instead by of her nephew Charles Adam Benkelman (born 1888), the son of her brother George Adam. Both families were ranchers and lived near Denver, Colorado.
PLEASE CONTACT US IF YOU CAN VERIFY WHICH CHARLES BENKELMAN THIS IS A PHOTO OF.

| Benkelman, Dorus ca 1911 on Sod Buster Day at Cass City High School with E.B. "Chick" Schwaderer and "Buck" Dorus is in the middle, with E.B "Chick" Schwaderer to his left and "Buck" UNKNOWN to the right. In a December 24, 1915 Cass City Chronicle article it was noted, "Wednesday was 'Sod Buster Day' at high school and several of the boys exhibited striking new ideas in male attire." As Dorus had graduated several years earlier, it appears this was an annual event at the High School, and this particular photo was taken at one of the earlier festivities. Dorus was a graduate of the Cass City High School class of 1912, and E.B. Schwaderer graduated in 1913.
