Tri-County Chronicle Staff
Rev. Klump, H. F. Lenzner, Anna Kump, Laura Klump. According to the HISTORY OF CASS CITY (December 1962), THE TRI-COUNTY CHRONICLE was founded by Frederick Klump in 1899 as a competitor to the existing weekly paper, the CASS CITY ENTERPRISE. They co-existed for some seven years. Herbert F. Lenzner, who had been employed by Mr. Klump almost from the founding of the Chronicle became a partner with Mr. Klump in late 1903, and in 1906 not only purchased the remaining interest of Mr. Klump, but also purchased the competitor paper from A. A. P. McDownell, when the two papers were consolidated under the name of the CASS CITY CHRONICLE on April 20, 1906.

Ruth's father lost his first two wives to childbirth, Ruth and her brother being born during his third marriage. Her husband, Finn McLemore, lost his first two wives to childbirth as well. Zahn, Leontine (center and mother of the girls) and her daughters, Bennie, Lucy, Amanda, and Nettie (l to r)
Amanda Zahn and Emile Martin were married in 1945. Johnette Martin recounts that within a few years of their wedding, her father took her mother, her grandmother, and her three Aunt's, all single at the time, on a car trip to Canada. Her father did most of the driving. At one point, however, one of his sister-in-law's was at the wheel, and imprudently tried to pass a vehicle. Had he not quickly jammed his foot over hers, they wouldn't have survived. This photo was taken during that memorable trip.

Zimmerman, Otillia ca 1850's or 1860's, with daughter Susanna
Thought to be a photo of Otillia Striffler & her daughter Susanna. Otillia Zimmerman was born in Alsace-Lorraine. She, her husband, Jacob Striffler, and children, immigrated to New York state in the 1830's. Some of the older Striffler family members recalled a family joke-there were 11 boys in the family, and all of them had a sister Susanna. Susanna married C. O. Lenzner, an immigrant from Leubetha, Germany.
