S. District Court for the Southern District of California. The Certificate was issued on July 9, 1948, and the Petition number was 135886, with her Alien Registration Number being 6146491. Border crossing records show that Mrs. Olga Annie Matejka was born on 2 Jun 1919 in Bawlf, Alta, Canada, and enteried in the United states on 2 Sept 1945 by auto for residence in Eastport Idaho. She had entered earlier as well, in Dec. 1944. She listed her mother as Dora Bosowitch, for Halfway Lakes, Alta, and was going to Long Beach with her husband Ervin and Son William J, both U.S. Citizens. Annie was described as 5 ft 5 1/2 inches tall with a fair complexion, brown hair and eyes. Her Canadian Passport No. was 382309. Her nationality was listed as Magyar (Hungarian).  STR06

2508 I12077  Bossert  Andrew  15 Sep 1830  4 Dec 1895  Jo Peck notes that family legend indicates he came from Frankfurt "On the Maine," Germany. Census records have differing answers, as can be noted below. He is listed in GERMANS TO AMERICA as arriving at U.S. Ports, 1850-1855, Volume 8, August to December 1854, on page 477. He left from Havre to New York on the Ravenswood, arriving November 25, 1854, with his destination indicated as New York. He lived in Genesee County, often a stopover place for those planning to move to Michigan and Wisconsin, due to its proximity to Lake Erie. She indicates that the Wisconsin Census record of 1860 shows him at 26, Anna 24, with real estate valued at $200 and personal property valued at $20.

Jo's mother said that Andrew accepted the Adventist message around 1860, joining the new Waterloo Township just forming. The SDA Religion started in Battle Creek, Michigan, between 1855 and 1860, with Jo's maternal great great granfather and wife one of the original 10 families there...and with Andrew joining the same church in Wisconsin in the 1860's.

Civil War records describe Andrew as being 5 feet 6 1/2 inches tall, blue eyed and with light hair and a light complexion. He served as a Private in Company C, 6th Regiment of Wisconsin Infantry Volunteers, and was discharged on July 14, 1865. He bought his army Springfield rifle for $6. Family stories say he walked home from Dubuque, Iowa, where he was discharged. Jo has his service and pension records, including Anna's Widow's Declaration for a Pension, which included the date and place of their marriage. It was this that inspired her to write the Town Historian of Elba, New York, and triggered his fantastic reply that he had gotten another letter that very same day from a descendant of Anna's brother, George, who had traveled from Germany with her and was married on the very same day by the same minister. This opened up the Jesse line for both Jo and Dot Williams to explore. All the biographical information about the descendants of Andrew and Anna Bossert was excerpted from material written by Jo.

The 1877 Grant County Atlas shows Andrew owning Lot 80, in Waterloo Township, where the old Bossert farm was located in a hollow on Chaffee Road. It is said the original house on the hill burned, and they built the next one in the hollow. There is a natural spring on the land with watercress. There were also Indian Mounds on the land that Jo's grandfather would not let his family disturb.

The 1895 Atlas showed the Bossert Homestead as belonging to Andrew's son Joseph, and a neighboring parcel belonging to Joe's on, Harry Bossert. The farm has since passed out of the family. Anna and Andrew had moved to Cassville in 1892, due to Andrew's failing health. Jo indicates that their home is still standing, but is almost unrecognizable with its changed facade. The old Seventh-day Adventist Church and cemetery on Highway 133, south of Cassville in Section 19 of Waterloo Township, still stand. Andrew Bossert was a deacon of this church. Andrew and Anna are buried behind the church, near their old home in Waterloo, as are Jo's grandparents Joe and Minnie.

2531 I15470  Bossert  Russell Lee  15 Oct 1898  6 Sep 1975  Jo Peck writes that her father, Russell, was the youngest of the Bossert children, weighing in at 12 pounds. He attended Cassville schools, Bethel Academy and Union College in Nebraska. Russ and Eleanor met in Hinsdale, where she was taking her nurses training. He was working in Chicago at the time. Both had black hair, she with blue eyes and he with green, and they looked a bit alike. He stood five feet, eleven inches tall, with a medium build. Russ was an electrician, and a long lineman for Consumers Power Company in Battle Creek. The fram was still in him, though, because when he retired he always had a garden plot on one of his friend's land outside of town. He grew enough vegetables to feed his family and many friends. He and some friends would make sauerkraut each fall from an old German recipe, and sell it for miles around to finance his trips to California to visit his daughters. Although Russell was raised as a Adventist, he did not practice his religion as an adult.  STR06

Kathy Casagranda, in her transcription of this census, lists him as Davidson Bossier. However, in a note posted to the Ancestry.com image of the 1850 census for this family, Linda Freeman instead shows his given name as Sylvester Cesaire Bossier, stating the Diversion was likely a nickman for De Brun..."of Brown." Howard Waldrop shows him as Sylvester Deveron Bossier. Paula Jones, on her WorldConnect tree, instead has his name listed as Sylvestre Deburn Bossier, born 21 Sept 1819, and cites the spelling of his name Sylvestre from his tombstone. She indicates he was a member of the 28 Louisiana Infantry, Company B. She indicates he died in Vicksburg, Mississippi, of the measles, presumably while in the service of the Louisiana Infantry.

Finally, Maggie Broussard, on her "Jean Bossier" tree on RootsWeb WorldConnect, shows him as Sylvestry DeBrum son of Syvestr Saizoire (Cesaire) BOSSIER and Euphrosine ARNAULD.

Colette Merchant (bossierbb@gmail.com) posted to my tree on WorldConnect the following information (on 7-12-2012):

Our old family middle name from the first settler Jean Baptiste "Dit Lebrun" Bossier (May 11, 1676-May 22, 1745) He was called "Lebrun Bossier" in old Natchitoches records.. "Dit" means "known as" a nickname in French as most Frenchmen at that time had one. The spelling progressed to just Lebrun then finally to Debrun has been mis-spelled,(Like Debrum/Debron/Debrune!!) Mis-read, not pronounced correctly for some time now. Loosing the knowledge of the French language is a large reason for this in our Bossier family.. Even the fact we pronounce our name the English way was from Sen Pierre Evariste Jean Baptiste Bossier (a double cousin to my 5th gg Sylvester SR. Pierre's mom was a Lambre' a sister to Marie Jeanne and his dad was Francois Paul Bossier(fils) Jr.a brother of his father) The other Bossier's in S. Louisiana related to us from Francois SR.'s two other brothers Jean Pierre Bossier b.1727, and Jean Baptiste Bossier (fils: French for JR.) b.1728 were all the first born Bossier's La.. Those lines still pronounce our name the French way..
Our Bossier's and all the other old families of their spouses are very old French Creole..Even in the descriptions of our double cousin Sen Pierre Bossier: READS: "Bossier was a 3rd generation French Creole the son of Francois Paul Bossier and the former Catherine Pelagie Lambre. His great grandfather was Jean Baptiste Dit Lebrun Bossier who came to La Louisiane with the French explorer LeHarp in 1718. He settled at Natchitoches Post and helped to rebuild the fort there. Sen Pierre(Peter)Bossier received a classical education privately,as in the old French Creole tradition. He was a cotton and sugar planter on his plantation, Live Oaks, on the Cane River, formerly a segment of the Red River, in Natchitoches Parish. He was also a general in the state militia."

Sen. Pierre E.J.B.Bossier is interred at the Catholic Cemetery in Natchitoches.

From the journal of:
JOHN QUINCY ADAMS
COMPRISING PORTIONS OF HIS DIARY FROM 1795 TO 1848.
VOL. XII. 2 April,24

"John Slidell, of New Orleans, then rose, and announced the
death of Pierre Evariste Bossier, a member from Louisiana, of
consumption, last evening, at his lodgings in this city. Slidell
pronounced a genteel eulogy upon him, larded with Latin and
French proverbs, and crowned him with a chaplet of French
Creole virtues. He offered the usual sympathizing resolutions,
to wear crape, to attend the funeral to-morrow at noon, and to
adjourn ; which were adopted without further notice. I spoke
to Mr. Crittenden, who said Mr. Clay would be here to-morrow,
and his letter on Texas would be published in the National
Intelligencer Saturday morning."

There are 5 Sylvester's in my direct line also that make a lot of confusion..(#1).Sylvester Bossier born 1768 one of 9 children born to Francois Bossier Sr. and Rosalie Charlotte Barre'(she was a great aunt to Jacques T. Roman builder of Oak Alley, and is the granddaughter of Joseph Girardy and Mary Henry who had a large plantation from St. John's Bayou all of what is now City Park and Canal Street in New Orleans was theirs... Her mother: Marie Jeanne Girardy was born there in 1705. Back to Sylvester(#1)married twice first to my 7th gg Marie Jeanne Lambre on Oct 17,1787 they had two children:(#2).Sylvestre Saijaire Bossier born Feb 25, 1790 at Natchitoches La. married Euphrosine Arnaud in 1813. He died in 1877 at Converse Sabine Parish and is buried in Bossier Cemetery. This Sylvestre spoke fluent French and wrote to family back in France until the very end of his life, he also had a sword encased in a cane with jewels on it someone in our family has it I am sure..He had one sister Marie Jeanne Pamela Bossier born April 15,1792.

Wife of Sylvester #1). Marie Lambre died May 21,1794 she was only 20 years old born in 1774, in N.O...
Then Sylvestre Bossier SR.(#1) married again on Aug 12, 1800 to Suzanne Collins. They had (#3).Sylvester Bossier 1801 I do not know as of yet who this Sylvester ever married), Zoe Bossier 1803, Louisa Rosayle Bossier in 1805, and Eloise Bossier in 1808. FYI a rather interesting side note on Louisa Bossier she married David Fairman Taber Oct 19, 1830 at Natchitoches, I obtained a copy of their original Marriage document myself while at Natchitoches courthouse in 1989. I was contacted in 2009 by Dan Taber of Minneapolis MN via e-mail, and here is what I found out through Dan Taber through his letter to me:

"Ma chere Colette,

Quel surprise !!! de recevoir ton message avec toutes les informations de Louise.

You've really floored me. I've been working on a family history of the Taber family for over 25 years, and I regularly send out "blind" messages hoping to find someone with some information, but it's so rare to get a response like your's. Thank you so much.

I am not a descendant of David Fairman Taber. If I were I probably wouldn't need a day job, as many of his descendants became quite well off. A son, Fairman Franklin Taber, was a highly regarded surgeon and had sons and a daughter with an engineering aptitude that they directed toward improving oil production at the well-head, and it made them quite wealthy. A daughter of Dr. Taber, Vida C. Taber, formed a company with her husband, Erle Palmer Halliburton, which became the worldwide oil, energy and construction company known now simply as "Halliburton." VP Cheney was CEO of the company in the 1990's, I'm sure you've heard of it. Louise Bossier was Vida C. (Taber) Halliburton's grandmother." So Halliburton's maternal line come's from (#1). Sylvester Bossier SR.!

Then (#2) Sylvestre Saijaire Bossier and Euphrosine Arnaud actually had two son's named Sylvester Bossier-> the youngest(#5).was Sylvester Hildevert Bossier b.Feb 07,1825, at Natchitoches he married:Coralie Collaghan April 18,1844,Sylvester Hildevert died in 1861,he also could have been serving in the CSA with the Natchitoches minutemen, his cousin Placide Bossier was and also killed about the same time, a poem was written for him I have a copy of in French and English..

Then going backwards here to our (#4).Sylvester Cesaire Debrun Bossier Sept 21,1819 in Opelousas St. Landry Parish. He is the one who died of measles while serving in the CSA on June 26,1862 at Vicksburg Miss. My cousin R.G. Claer (b;1936) son of Myrtle Bossier b.1909 (my grandpa R.D. Bossier's only sister) has Sylvester C.Debrun Bossiers leather wallet with Confederate bills still in it, in a safety deposit box in Kilgore Texas.

(#4) Sylvester C.D. Bossier married twice first to my 3rd gg Margaret Ann McDonald their marriage was between 1839- 1840 at Union Springs,Sabine Parish. Margaret Ann and Sylvester C. Debrun had 9 children total I have all their info if you want it, the last child born was Newton B. Bossier born March 11, 1858, then Margaret Ann McDonald Bossier died Dec 23,1858 when Newton B was just 9 mos old.. She was only 38 years old!!

So Sylvester C.D.Bossier (#4) married widow Narcissa Waldrop McDonald in 1859 in Converse Sabine Parish (two of Sylvesters older daughters by Margaret Ann also married Waldrop men this same year, maybe younger brothers or cousins, nephews to Narcissa? Their grandfather Margaret Ann McDonald's dad was the Justice of The Peace: Robert Knoles McDonald, performed the ceremonies of all three weddings that took place in 1859! Sophia Bossier married Samuel H. Waldrop, Aug 29, 1859 & Florida Bossier married James Waldrop July 10, 1859. Sylvester (#4) and Narcissa had two children together: Jasper Bossier born Feb 09,1860, and Laura Ann Bossier March 26,1862.. A lot of our Bossier men come from the Jasper Bossier line!

I have done a lot of research over the years, been in contact with several cousins, and have a lot of old documents/chalk drawings I sent away for to Natchitoches N.S.U.. It's all about sharing and saving our family history for future generations. Plus I love our deep old La Louisiane French Creole roots.

2585 I18369  Boswell  Gabriel Sims  Abt 1850  Yes, date unknown  Seeking additional information on GABRIEL 'GABE' SIMS BOSWELL, my great uncle. He was born in Gordon county, Ga. in 1850. Around 1869 the family moved to Texas. They lived in Lamar, Fannin, Hopkins counties. Somehow Gabe ended up in Sabine county, Texas. He married Mary 'Mollie' Speights in Orange, Texas in 1882. Mary was daughter of the prominent Joshua Speights. Gabe and Mary lived in Logansport where I understand he had a mercantile business. When Mary died in 1886, Gabe rented out the business and moved to Many. I would like to learn more about his mercantile business, such as where it was located, how long he was the proprietor, etc. This is new information to me and am curious. Also about 1899, Gabe left his family and went to Old Mexico for about a year....I wonder does anyone know anything about this? My relationship to Gabe is that his sister, Fanny (Boswell) Cook, is my great grandmother.

A drayman was historically the driver of a dray, a low, flat-bed wagon without sides, pulled generally by horses or mules that were used for transport of all kinds of goods. Now the term is really only used for brewery delivery men, even though routine horse-drawn deliveries are almost entirely extinct. Some breweries do still maintain teams of horses and a dray, but these are used only for special occasions such as festivals or opening new premises.

In "Historical Collections of Bristol Township, Bristolville, Ohio" Thomas J. Kachur 1989, p. 164, xerox copy provided by the Trumbull County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society, the following article appears:

LEW, Frank, b. Dec 9, 1878 in East Farmington to Myron and Margaret (Sullivan) LEW m. Myrtle STRONG Nov. 26, 1882 (sic-not DOM but DOB of Myrtle), dau of Frank and Addie (Miller) STRONG. She was b. Nov 26, 1882 in Huntsburg. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Bristol. Children: Floyd of Lynwood, Calif.; Carl, Dwight, and Caroline GEHO all of Bristol; Marion HALL and Arlene MAZZITELLI of Warren; and a seventh child, Hazel, who d. in infancy, June 13, 1920.

This listing may concern a different Frank and Addie STRONG. If it is for the correct couple, then Myrtle MIGHT have been a step-daughter of Frank, and not his daughter. His first wife, Mary, didn't die until 1910, well after Myrtle was born. Additional, Frank and Mary appeared to have only had three sons (Freddie, William, and George).
