24802 I20191  Wright  Marion  Mar 1876  Abt 1918  It is possible that her middle name is Ambria, which is how she is referred to in the obituary of her daughter, Dorothy. Furthermore, it appears that both her mother, and namesake daughter Marion, used the name Ambria. However, on census records, in the obituary of her son Herbert Lee Chapman, and on her tombstone, she is instead simply listed as "Mother, Marion Caie, 1877-1918."

24803 I46044  Wright  Marion D.  28 Nov 1861  Yes, date unknown  Past and Present of Greene County, Missouri
Early and Recent History and Genealogical Records of Many of the Representative Citizens
Jonathan Fairbanks and Clyde Edwin Tuck

MARION D. WRIGHT. The record of the successful self-made man is always interesting and instructive. It encourages those who have been held back by an unfavorable early environment. There are a great many people abroad in the land who would make a great deal more of their opportunities and make themselves useful citizens if they had the proper encouragement at the right time. The life record of Marion D. Wright is one that should be read with interest and profit by many who have become discouraged on life's rugged highway, for we find that Mr. Wright has forged his way to the front in the face of adversity and with no outside assistance. He was for some time one of the successful merchants of Walnut Grove and is now classed among the most progressive general farmers and stock men of the northwestern part of Greene county.

Mr. Wright was born in Polk county, Missouri, November 28, 1861. He is a son of John and Mary (Wood) Wright, both natives of that county also, the father's birth occurring in 1835, and the mother's in 1842. They grew to maturity in their native community, were educated in the old-time subscription schools and were married there and established their home on a farm. John Wright spent most of his life in Polk county, but lived in the West several years. He owned a good-sized farm in Polk county where he carried on general farming until the breaking out of the Civil war when he enlisted in the Union army and died while in the service, at Arlington Hospital, Pilot Knob, Missouri, in October, 1862. Politically, he was a strong Republican and pronounced in his views on public affairs. He was a member of the Turkey Creek Baptist church, and was a highly respected citizen and well known among the early settlers. He had but the one child, Marion D. Wright, of this sketch. The mother of our subject was a daughter of Isaac and Susanna (Vaughn) Wood, both natives of cast Tennessee, from which country they emigrated to Polk county, Missouri, in an early day and established the family home on a farm. Mrs. Mary Wright remarried and is now living in Walnut Grove.

John Wright enlisted in Company L, Sixth Missouri Volunteer Infantry, for three years, but died from exposure soon afterwards.

Marion D. Wright spent his boyhood days on the home farm in Polk county, and he worked hard when growing to manhood during crop seasons, attending the district schools during the winter months. When eighteen years of age he entered the Southwest Baptist College at Bolivar, Missouri, and took a four-years' course, making an excellent record. After leaving college he returned home and resumed work on the farm, but soon thereafter he went to Walnut Grove and began in the general merchandise business and flour milling, which lines of endeavor he conducted with ever increasing success and satisfaction until 1902, in which year he sold out and bought the farm of one hundred and eighty-three acres where he now resides. He has made many improvements, such as erecting a silo and out-buildings, fences, etc., until he now has one of the valuable, productive and desirable farms, of the county, which is well located near the thriving town of Walnut Grove. In connection with general farming he raises a good grade of live stock of which he is an excellent judge, and he is regarded as one of the most progressive general farmers in this section of Greene county as well as one of the most substantial and successful citizens, a man who has done much for the general good of the community.

Mr. Wright was married on December 23, 1886, to Maggie McLemore, a daughter of Andrew Jackson McLemore, and Dialtha (Alexander) McLemore, long one of the prominent families of this section of the Ozarks. Mrs. Wright was born in Christian county, Missouri, and she received her education in the common schools.

Six children have been born to Mr. and Mrs. Wright, namely: Dean lives in Walnut Grove; Reu, Thomas, Dialtha, Marian and Laura Mae, all at home with their parents, but the eldest.

Politically, Mr. Wright is a Republican, and while he has never been an office holder he has been influential in public affairs of his locality, and his support may always be depended upon in furthering any movements in the community calculated to be of general good, in material, civic or moral matters. Fraternally he belongs to the Masonic order at Walnut Grove. He and. his wife are members of the Baptist church at Walnut Grove, he having been clerk of the local congregation since its organization in 1903, and is a pillar in his church. He is a broad-minded, well-informed gentleman of positive ideas and correct principles and is highly esteemed by all who know him.

MO Census."

Mt. Hermon Baptist Church, Lincoln County, Tennessee" by Betty Via also notes that Julyan appears to be a relation, perhaps a daughter, of Benjamin and Hannah Wright as she is always listed with them. The book shows that she was rec'd by experience, August, 1851; married (Swan?) before August, 1859; granted letter, August 1859, letter was called for by Brother Wright.

Melba Gene McLemore does not agree with this conclusion, believing that Julia Ann is NOT a daughter of Benjaming Wright and Hannah McLemore.

That grandson was listed as CARLTON WRIGHT. However, at the time of the 1880 census, it appears that Ella was already deceased, and that only her four year old son, Willis Wright was living with his grandparents. When Dan returned home to farm, Milton and Virginia built a new home a few miles away and continued to farm.

She and Milton especially enjoyed dancing and attended many polka and modern dances. They also liked to travel in later years, enjoying several trips with Becwar Tours, as well as many Army reunion trips that took them to several states.

Matano (Mike?) Yeck, born Sept. 1846 Bohemia, immigrated 1874, Farmer
Frances Yeck, born July 1846 Bohemia, immigrated 1874
Emil Yeck (son), born July 1882 Nebraska
Tony Yeck (daughter), born April 1884 Nebraska
Agnes Yeck (daughter), born April 1886 Nebraska
Frank Yeck (son), born Feb. 1888 Nebraska

There is also a Joe Yeck family in the 1900 Census, Saline County, Atlanta precinct:
Joe Yeck, born March 1876 Nebraska, both parents born in Bohemia
Judy Yeck, born Feb. 1876 Nebraska, both parents born in Bohemia
Joe Yeck (son), born May 1899 Nebraska

The Census data says go with the marriage license info. "Tony" in the Census data would be "Tonie" on the license &, I agree, is probably a nickname for Antonie.

The Census data shows that Frances Yeck was the mother of 9 children, all of them living, so I think it would be a good bet that the older Joe Yeck is one of Matano and Frances's sons.

William YOST was said to have been the son of George and Betty Yost of Holland. Judy Jones, however, notes that even though this is found in the Payne book; she suspects this may not be accurate. She was, as of July 2009, working on verifying whether or not this was correct. William Yost was the grandfather of her great-grandfather George Thomas Yost. Her Yost's (George, Katherine and children) were in Jessamine Co, KY for a time. They apparently originated from Maryland. It appears that William T. Yost and wife Matilda Payne came from KY to MO with Payne's. Later, several more Yost brothers came into Missouri.

Kathleen Wilham's notes indicate that the Yost family were "Moravians, United Brethern."

24893 I17624  Youngblood  Margaret Anna  9 Feb 1872  1967  MRS. MARGARET ANNA YOUNGBLOOD RAGAN DECEMBER 26, 1963

Mrs. Margaret Anna "Maggie" Youngblood Ragan will be 92 years old February 9, 1964, but a fresh complexion, twinkling eyes and amazing energy belie those years. Born in 1872 at the family home just past the bend in the north edge of Hemphill, Sabine County, Texas on the Milam road, she is the daughter of the master James and Margaret Smith Youngblood, members of pioneer families in Sabine County. The Youngblood's came from Mississippi by the way of Louisana.

Mr. Youngblood, oldest of 13 children, fought in 3 wars---Civil, Indian and Mexican--and did not receive a scratch. His relatives were not so fortunate, however. His father was killed in the Civil war (it is believed that he died in 1862); two brothers died in service, one lost an arm and another a leg. Mrs. Youngblood's grandfather, Robert H. "Bob " Smith was a man of means when he came to Texas. In the 1830's, persons desiring to become a citizen of Texas were required to have a sponsor who was already a citizen. Sam Houston, himself sponsored Mr. Smith, who lived on the Yellow pine Hi way where Roy Payne now lives. Bob Smith bought thousands of acres in many surveys in Sabine and other counties.

On January 3, 1897, Margaret Anna was married to John A. Ragen, who was born where Woods Garage now is. He is the son of Dr. Jubal Harper and Martha Ann Broadway Ragan, pioneers from Virginia. Before they were married, they never went anywhere together. During the week, he would send her a note by a Negro boy telling her he would be coming to see her on Sunday afternoon at the home of her parents. Her sister and family did not get to the wedding because the oxen which were to pull the wagon got out of the pasture and could not be found in time.

In 1900 they loaded up all their belongings in a covered wagon and drove a pair of mules to Greer County, Oklahoma to visit her father, sister and brother who had moved up there. It took them three weeks to get there, staying in wagon yards at night, and cooking in a "cook house" when they were in towns. Most of the time, however, they tied up by the side of the road, if you could call it a road, and did Thier cooking on campfires and slept in the wagon. They baked biscuits and cornbread everyday, using a "Dutch Oven" with 3 legs and a scooped out lid to put the coals on. She says it baked real good.

After a week or two of visiting, they set out on the return trip, but stopped for a year at the Halsell Ranch where they both worked. While there they took a train to Wichita Falls to see Ringland Bros. Circus and came home that night after the show. It was the only train ride that Mrs, Ragan ever took.

They finally returned to Hemphill because they did not like the severe weather, sand storms, wind and cold, and because they could not find a house to buy except a "dug out" This was a house built into the side of a hill with a portion of the hill used as walls so as to conserve building material which was quite scarce on the prairie in those days. Back in Hemphill, they bought a log house on 63 acres of land three miles south of town, which they farmed until 1928, when they traded with Bob Crowell and moved to Hemphill. Mr. Ragan died in 1958, and since then Mrs. Ragan has made her home with her only child, Miss. Willie Ragan of Houston. They spend time as possible at their home here.

Mrs Ragan recalls an incident of their Oklahoma trip. While they were spending time in a Fort Worth Wagon Yard, with a rain coat hung over the front of the wagon sheet. She had laid out a pair of trousers on the spring seat for Mr. Ragan to put on in the morning, and during the night she saw them rise up and go back down. The next morning they were gone, but when Mr. Ragan went to feed his mules, there the pants hung. Since there was no money in the pocket, the robber evidently didn't care to keep them.

James Youngblood is listed along with a brother and sister as living in Greer County Oklahoma and were the purpose of the above trip in 1900. However James Youngblood is listed on the 1910 Census of Sabine Co. TX. Therefore sometime between 1900 and 1910 he had returned to Hemphill.
