Survivors: wife, Marie White of Hemphill; son, Mike White of Hemphill; daughter, Tina Ebarb and husband Johnny of Hemphill; sister, Neva Alexander of Jasper; and five grandchildren, Jordan, Harlee and Abbee Ebarb and Brittany and Morgan White. Funeral services were held Sunday, April 27 at Starr Funeral Home Chapel in Hemphill with Rev. Glenn Morton and Rev. Vance Purtell officiating. Interment followed in Pinehill Cemetery. Visitation with limited family present will begin prior to the service at Noon. Private family graveside will be at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Center. The family requests social distancing be observed. Betty was born in Hemphill, Texas, on July 19, 1940, to Carter Arnold and Connie White. She graduated from Hemphill High School in 1958. She married Robert Stephen Webb on February 9, 1963. Steve and Betty made their home in Center. They spent 50 years together until his death in 2013. Over the years, all the neighborhood kids could be found playing around the Webb's house. Betty started a career in banking and loved her job and customers. She worked at Farmers State Bank for 34 years until retirement. She loved the Lord and was a member of First Baptist Church of Center. Betty also served on Housing Authority Board of City of Center for over 20 years. Betty loved her family and friends dearly. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and watching them grow. She always looked forward to a visit from her friends to catch up. She was an avid reader and loved a good book. Betty touched many lives and will be missed by everyone. She is survived by her sons, Barry Webb and wife Michelle of Crystal Beach, TX, and Darren Webb and wife Wendi of Lago Vista, TX; sister, Linda Horton of Hemphill, TX; brother-in-law, Millard Smith of Hemphill, TX; sister-in-law, Mildred Webb of Center, TX; grandchildren, Emily Webb of Fort Smith, Arkansas, Taylor Webb of Lago Vista, TX, Mallory Webb of Lago Vista, TX, Trace Greer of Nacogdoches, TX, and Tatum Greer of New Braunfels, TX; great grandchildren, Charlotte Webb of Lago Vista, TX, Averi Greer of Nacogdoches, TX, and Addison Greer of Nacogdoches, TX; numerous nephews, nieces, and a host of family and friends. Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Steve Webb; parents, Carter Arnold and Connie White; sister and brother-in-law, Billie Ruth and Alvin Ferguson; sister, Johnnie Mae Smith; brothers-in-law, Joe Horton and Eugene Webb. Pallbearers will be Michael Spells, Allen Metcalf, George Stubblefield, Randy Smith, Chris Mayfield, and Eric Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be Keith Webb, Robert Ferguson, Kenneth Ferguson, and Ronald Ferguson. She was born in Hemphill to Carter Arnold and Connie Brown White. Billie Ruth lived in Crockett from 1969 until 1984 when she moved to Jasper. In 2005 she moved back to Hemphill and was a member of the Hemphill Church of God. She is survived by her mother Connie White of Hemphill, her sons Kenneth Alvin Ferguson and his wife Donna of Milam, Robert Arnold Ferguson and his wife Raven of Jasper, and Ronald E. Ferguson and his wife Julie of Dallas, her sisters Johnnie Mae Smith and her husband Millard of Milam, Betty Jo Webb and her husband Stevie of Center, and Linda Gail Horton and her husband Joe of Hemphill. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Nikki [Ferguson of Coeur D'Alene, Idaho], Zack, and Katy [Ferguson of Jasper]. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2011, in the Starr Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM, Thursday, Nov. 17, 2011, in the Starr Funeral Home Chapel. It noted, among other things, that she was the eldes daughter of Arnold and Connie White and was raised in the Pine Park community of Sabine County, and they were members of the Church of God in Hemphill. She attended both Bronson and Hemphill High Schools, graduating from Hemphill in 1951, and was married to Alvin Ferguson on Feb. 21, 1953 in Hemphill. They delivered and raised their three sons in Hemphill, moving to Crockett, Texas in 1970, where she worked as a seamstress at Alee Work Clothes. She and Alvin retired to Jasper, and following his death and the circumstances of "Hurricane Rita" she moved back to her hometown to be near her mother and sisters, and doing what she enjoyed most, attending church, gardening, and spending time with family and friends. She often visited relatives in both Sabine County and Lake Charles, LA. |

He was born in Sabine County, December 21, 1940, to William Curtis (1905-1990) and Freddie Miller White (1914-1985). Bobby attended Bronson I.S.D. for 12 years. He was Mr. Bronson high School, an FFA Officer, an Annual Staff member, Class Officer, Boy Scout, and a member of the Bronson Bulldogs basketball and baseball teams. Bobby graduated Bronson High School in 1959, going on to attend Lamar University where he earned an Associate's Degree. Bobby served two terms as a West Sabine I.S.D. School Board member, served as the Sabine County Precinct Two Justice of the Peace for eighteen years, and retired as a supervisor for Temple-Inland. He was a member of Pinehill Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Jean White, of Bronson, Texas; his two sons, Curtis White and wife, Brenda, and Rocky White and wife Margaret, all of Bronson; his brothers, Burl White and wife, Helen, and Earl White and his sister, Johnnie Phillips and husband, Glen, also all of Bronson, six grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Jack White emailed, in August, 2013, that he is descended from Cajabeth White, who was living in Bute Co, NC with his brother, William, as early as 1766. He had two sons, John and Robert. John White inherited land from a man named John Seagrove, whose will names John White as his nephew. It seems likely that Cajabeth's wife, Frances, was a Seagrove, but this is not proven. The 1771 tax list for Bute Co shows that Young McLemore, who is part of your family tree, had an overseer named John Seagrove, who appears on a number of documents with members of the McLemore family before they migrated out of Bute (later Warren) Co. I have been trying for a couple of years to piece together precisely how the Seagrove, McLemore and White families may have interacted with one another, but the Seagrove family history is as complicated as that of the Whites. The thing that interests me about your website is that Cajabeth White was frequently referred to in court documents as Cade, and I see in your website that two sons of Edward White (b. 1781 in Mecklenburg Co, VA) each had sons they named Cade. |

After his military service, he began working for Temple-Inland in Pineland where he worked as a saw filer until his retirement after 30 plus years. Burl enjoyed hunting and he loved spoiling his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Burl is survived by his wife of 52 years, Helen Waldrop White; sons, Kurtis White and wife, Tracy, of Pine Park Community and Brandon White and wife, Hannah, of Bronson; twin brother, Earl White of Hemphill; sister, Johnnie Sue Phillips and husband, Glenn, of Pine Park; grandchildren, Terra White and husband, Bryan Godeaux, Chelsi Woods and husband, Clayton Woods, Tyler White, BreeAnn White, Andrew Russell, and Bailee White; and great grandchildren, Prestin White, Lilly Godeaux, Colston Woods, and Cullen Woods. This may or may not be the same Edward White that is located in Amite County, Mississippi 10 years later. The family composition is 3 males under the age of 10, 1 male between 10-16, two males between 26 and 45, two females under the age of 10, and one female age 26 to 45. On the 1830 Amite County, Mississippi census, Edward White and wife had 3 boys & 3 girls, 0-9, 1 boy and 1 girl 10-19. He was between the ages of 40 to 60 and his wife was between 20 and 40. He was still in Amite County in 1840, on page 52. The microfilm at the San Antonio Public Library was faded and difficult to read. It appeared to show the following, however< Edward White Males 1-0-2-0-0-0-0-1 Females0-2-0-2-0-0-1-0 He appears to have held at least two female slaves, one under the age of five, and the other between five and ten. The number of male slaves is difficult to read. It is probably just one. Edward White, his wife Elizabeth, and several of his children can be found in Amite County, Mississippi on the 1850 census as well. Sometime after this enumeration, they moved to Sabine County, Texas. In White and Toole's book, Sabine County Historical Sketches and Genealogical Records it was noted hat "Later that year (ca. 1843-sic), the Edward White family...and many of their friends and relatives came to Sabine County. Some forty or fifty covered wagons, some of them drawn by oxen, travelled together." From "Sabine County Historical Sketches And Genealogical Records." Edward White is shown on various internet trees, most unsourced, as either the son of William White and Mary Matilda Mason of Mecklenberg, Virginia or as the son of Edward White and Pembrook Singleton of Kingston Parish, Gloucester County, Virginia. In neither case has documentary evidence been shown. Mildred Bell Landers emailed that she had "heard from a ggg grandson of Edward White (through his daughter who married Cannon Travis), and he asked if I had ever heard that Edward was an Indian named Whitecloud or Whitefeather, like his father, William. I had never heard this, and in Sabine County the past is closer than elsewhere. Nor had I heard that Edward White's father was William. One of my other gg grandfathers was part Indian, and this seems to be known in Sabine County, at least by descendants. Ever heard of any of this? There was a picture of an Edward White, Civil War veteran, in an issue of the Sabine County Reporter (maybe a son or grandson) and he did not appear to be part Indian. In my mother's family, some of them had characteristics that could be considered Indian." Jack Hutchins White emailed, in August 2013, that his White ancestor was "Cajabeth White, who was living in Bute Co, NC with his brother, William, as early as 1766. He had two sons, John and Robert. John White inherited land from a man named John Seagrove, whose will names John White as his nephew. It seems likely that Cajabeth's wife, Frances, was a Seagrove, but this is not proven. The 1771 tax list for Bute Co shows that Young McLemore....had an overseer named John Seagrove, who appears on a number of documents with members of the McLemore family before they migrated out of Bute (later Warren) Co. I have been trying for a couple of years to piece together precisely how the Seagrove, McLemore and White families may have interacted with one another, but the Seagrove family history is as complicated as that of the Whites. The thing that interests me about your website is that Cajabeth White was frequently referred to in court documents as Cade, and I see in your website that two sons of Edward White (b. 1781 in Mecklenburg Co, VA) each had sons they named Cade. I believe it is likely that the Edward White in your website is the son of William White Sr. of Mecklenburg Co, VA. The personal property tax lists for that county show a son of William named Edward who is first listed as a taxable adult in the household of his father in 1797 and as head of his own household in 1800. He is gone from the county by 1801. I am researching the possibility that William White Sr. was the brother of Cajabeth "Cade" White named in the 1766 tax rolls for Bute Co. The fact that the name Cade appears twice among the grandchildren of Edward White seems to support this theory. I am still a bit fuzzy on when this White line intermarries with the Strong and McLemore families. I am hoping one of your family researchers would be willing to collaborate with me on the foregoing topics. I have copied Lisa Lisson, a White family descendant, who is assisting in this research." |

James and Drucilla's two younger daughters are listed with Drucilla and her new husband, but their oldest daughter, born circa 1848/1849, has disappeared. It could be that this oldest daughter died. Or it could be that the oldest daughter went to live with and/or care for her elderly grandparents. Additionally, the 11 year old L.E. White does not seem to fit into any other of the White families shown on the 1850 census, nor can she be found after 1860. |

Henry S and Mary E White (third wife) were among the 11 founding members of the First Baptist Church of Hemphill, all of whom gathered on the banks of the Housen Bayou, drawing up 12 articles of Faith and 24 articles of Decorum. Henry served as the clerk to the church, recording all church proceedings for a period of some 12 years (from 1858 to 1870), as a delegate to church conferences, and as the moderator of church proceedings. In November, 1868, he was ordained as a Deacon of the Church. In 1876, H S and Mary E White left the First Baptist Church and were among the founding members of the Antioch Baptist Church in the Gravel Hill Community of Sabine County. According to a plaque on the front of the Antioch Church, J. S. Lambert and J J Roundtree were the organizers. Other founding members included: George Conn, John Anderson, T.D. Burkhalter, John De Weese, L.W. Hoard, Hosie Baldree, Ann Mason, Sophie H. Wallace, Mrs. C.A. Hoard, C. Baldree Per the book "Sabine County Historical Sketches and Genealogical Records" by White and Toole, "Henry S. White Sr. was Judge of Sabine County from 1869-1875, serving with Solomon Arthur. (They were called Chief Magistrates until the new State Constitution went into effect at the end of their term). Henry S. White was also a member of the Littleton Fowler Masonic Lodge. As the White Plantation lay just west of Hemphill, he was one of the last of the "Paderos" for the return of run-a-way slaves." I have been unable to locate a CSA service record for Henry. It is probable that he was considered too old for service, he was almost 50 at the outbreak of the war. His tombstone indicates he was a Mason. Note in the 1920 Sabine County, Texas federal census, there was a 50 year old mulatto farmer named Jesse White (#594-616). He noted that his father was born in Mississippi and his mother in Georgia. Jane's passions included crafting, gardening, and caring for her chickens. She relished the time spent with her grandchildren, and her love for the outdoors was evident through her enjoyment of fishing and camping. Jane also enjoyed playing BINGO with friends. Friestat's online tree also shows that John David White was married several times, both prior to and after, his marriage to Mary Elizabeth Smith. He is said to be buried at Resthaven Cemetery. The "Lawrence-Clinton" tree on Ancestry.com also show his father as John Franklin White, and lists his mother as well, Mary Ann Reddell. The same DOB is listed, 14 Dec 1914 in Collin County, TX. The date of death, varies somewhat, showing 1 March 1993, but I am still unable to find him on the SSDI with that year of birth. There is, however, a John D. White, born 14 Dec 1914 and died Mar 1992 on the SSDI. Additionally, the Texas Death index has a listing for a John White, date of death 13 Mar 1992, Dallas County, Texas. |

He hunted wild game at every opportunity, and never was his larder empty of venison, turkey and squirrel. A nephew, A.V. White recalls seeing John and his brother-in-law, George Morris, coming home with two large turkey gobblers, with their feet tied together and a pole between their legs and their heads dragging. He loves to tell tall tales and was known as somewhat of a joker. He tells of the time his uncle, Jack White, shot a deer and thinking it was dead, ran up and grabbed it by the horns. The deer came up stomping and kicking Jack with its sharp hoofs. "Jacks feet were in pretty bad condition" chuckled John "but he was always getting in trouble. Once he caught a fawn and tied it to a tree with his shirt. When Jack got ready to go home home, it had broken loose and fled, taking Jack's shirt along." A dead pan joker, John White had such a reputation for tall tales that Andrew Lott told a newcomer Tom Pulliam, who started to repeat something John said, "anyone repeating anything John White says has to shell a a half a bushel of peanuts. Once when someone was bragging about his corn harvest, Johh said "Oh that's nothing. I had to haul half of mine into have room to windrow the rest." The Whites have lived all their married life on their farm in the Pinehill community where they raised their children and where they now have retired in their pleasant little house surrounded by tall pines and beautiful scenery. She was preceded in death by her mother, Jerri Fuller and her father, R. B. White. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. Sunday, August 15, 2021 at Starr Funeral Home, 510 Starr Street, Hemphill, Texas.
