Marjorie was born in June, 1908 to Thomas Albert Sinclair and wife, Mary Ella. She was raised in the Heights, on the Boulevard, where she attended Cooley School, and both Heights High and Reagan High Schools, while later attending and graduating from Texas Christian University in the early 30s. Her father, Thomas Albert, was the founder and builder of Heights Hospital that stood and served the people of the area on the corner of 19th and Ashland Avenue. This hospital was later torn down, rebuilt again on the same location, still serving the people of the area as "Heights Hospital." Marjorie worked as a nurse at her father's hospital, and later she taught shorthand at a business college "downtown", where she amazingly met and was attracted to a man named Lyndon Johnson, a debating coach/teacher at the school, who, to the relief of her father, was soon off to Washington. Later she would meet and wed a young doctor who was working at her father's hospital, having two children, Ann and Bill, who grew up in the then new addition of "Garden Oaks", while World War II raged overseas.Marjorie very much enjoyed the game of "Bridge" with her friends, and was quite active in the women's organization of the PEOs her entire life. Her daughter, Ann Synnott, met and married a young lumberman named Fagan Arnold Cox, having four children, Keith, the eldest, daughter Shari, and sons David and Tom Cox. Keith, living now in Philadelphia with wife Melanie, have three children, son Carter, a student at Vanderbuilt, a daughter Clemens, a student at the University of California in Los Angeles, and the youngest of the three, daughter Calloway , now in high school. Tom Cox and wife Nan have four children, three girls, Katie, Elizabeth, and the youngest, Ann Grace, and son Burrus, who live in Nashville, Tennessee. David Cox and wife Joan live in Houston, continuing the father's lumber business. They have three beautiful children, two boys, Christy, the eldest, Trenton, a student at Lamar, and daughter Margo.These ten new members of the family, the great grandchildren of Marjorie, are the future, earning her the title "Great Mother" to all of those who most dearly love her. Marjorie is survived as well by son-in-law Conway Hall, a businessman in Houston, married now to Marjorie's daughter Ann. Marjorie also is survived by her brother, Thomas A. Sinclair II and his wife, Lucille of Kerrville, Texas. Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six o'clock until eight o'clock in the evening on Friday, the 6th of August, at Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.The interment service is to be conducted at half past ten o'clock in the morning on Saturday, the 7th of August, at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery, 6900 Lawndale Avenue in Houston, where the Rev. Reagan Cocke, Associate Rector, of Church of St. John the Divine is to officiate.In lieu of flowers and customary remembrances, donations may be directed to any charity of one's choice. |

She married Keith King on August 3, 1946 in Kearney. Betty enjoyed many pursuits and activities with bridge and reading of high importance to her. She was actively involved in community activities especially with the Kearney Area Chamber of Commerce where she was an Envoy for many years. In 1996, Betty and Keith were extremely humbled to receive the "Friend of Kearney" award as this community has been such an important part of their lives. She was a member of First Lutheran Church of Kearney and supported numerous charitable services and organizations in the Kearney community including the Kearney Goodfellows, Habitat for Humanity and the Kearney Area Community Foundation. A few years later, Rose started work at Dorsey Sandoz as a Packaging Operator where she met her husband, Richard. The two were married on September 19, 1959 and welcomed their daughter Cheryl (Sheri) five years later. Rose worked at Dorsey for almost 40 years. Rose and Richard were married for 51 years until Richard passed in 2010. Rose enjoyed gardening, tending to her flowers, and listening to the birds. Rose was a talented painter and played the accordion. Richard and Rose would frequent the casinos where Rose had all the luck at the slot machines. Big Money! Rose was an avid viewer of Wheel of Fortune and The Bachelor. Rose loved shopping especially for her grandchildren. Rose was a member of The Way of Holiness Church. Rose enjoyed spending time with her family, church friends, and her precious dog Henry. Rose took pride in her titles as wife, mom, and grandma. One of Rose's most precious gifts in this world was the love and pride she had for her daughter, and the bond she had with her grandchildren. Family members include her daughter Cheryl (Peter) Eppens; grandchildren Ashley Eppens (Eddy Hernandez) and Nathaniel (Kylee) Eppens; great-grandson Theodore Eppens, all of Lincoln; nieces and nephews. On July 2, 1955 she married Kenneth Kubicek. In the late 1950's, Ken bought his first truck and they both started Kubicek Trucking. In June 1966, Velma and Ken became the first owner and fleet operators with Crete Carrier Corp. In 1971, Velma and Ken's Trucking business had expanded to thirteen trucks over the road. At that time they had built their own shop. Velma did the office work (dispatching, bookkeeping). In the early 1980's, she had started Vel's Trailer Wash which she ran until her retirement. She moved to Lincoln to be closer to her family. She was an outdoor person, loving her garden, flowers, yard work, cooking, and spending time with her family/grandchildren. Shirley was born August 17, 1943 to Rudolph and Engeline (Langhorst) Slama in Beatrice, NE, the third of six children. Shirley grew up with her family near Swanton, NE and later moved with her family to a farm south of Friend, NE. Shirley especially loved working with her dad on the farm, milking cows, hauling bales, and doing anything outside was her favorite place to be. After graduating from Friend High School in 1961 she attended business school in Omaha, NE and then began working at the Crete Mills, where she met her husband, William Sladek Jr. Bill and Shirley were married October 19, 1963, and to this union six children were born, Bill, Peggy, Kathy, Christy, Rex, and David. Shirley loved cooking, gardening, crocheting, sewing, playing cards, and caring for her family. She raised and canned almost everything her family ate and her cooking was THE BEST. She loved treating co-workers, neighbors, and businesses with her tremendous goods and it was always said that she could make shoe leather taste good. She loved sharing and had a heart of gold, with a great smile, contagious laugh, and was a pillar of strength. Her work ethic was second to none, and she could run circles around those young enough to be her grandchildren. She was incredible. Shirley was a dedicated, reliable LPN and licensed EMT for many years. She worked countless shifts over the years at Friend, Geneva, and Exeter. The highlight of her nursing career was being able to attend the C-Section birth of a patient's child. She was honored to be able to share in such a special moment and always said what an incredible experience it was. During her retirement years Shirley enjoyed helping in the school kitchen and really enjoyed watching the kids grow and follow their activities. She passed away at Heritage Crossings in Geneva, Nebraska on February 18, 2022 at the age of 99 years and 13 days. At an early age, the family moved and lived near Burress, Nebraska. Dorothy attended rural school District 21 through the 8th grade. Her high school years were brief because of the drought and depression of the 30's. Although her formal education was limited, she never stopped learning and experiencing new things. She was employed in several households in and around Fillmore County. She also worked as a waitress in Geneva, Nebraska. On February 10, 1942, Dorothy married Fred Stych in Belleville, Kansas. They began their married life in the hardest of times. She raised poultry, a large garden, and helped in the fields during haying and harvest seasons. She also provided great harvest meals. She enjoyed cooking traditional Czech food?roast duck, dumplings, sauerkraut, kolaches and rolls. She loved the farm life. Fred and Dorothy were blessed with two children, Glenn and Lana. Her goal was to give her children the many things she was not able to have during her growing up years. Dorothy enjoyed family get-togethers and weekend trips. She enjoyed playing cards, playing bingo, visiting with friends, and taking short golf cart tours of Milligan. Many people enjoyed Dorothy's embroidery handiwork. She completed over 70 sets of tea towels for the Milligan Methodist Church. Dorothy was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 240 of Milligan for over 75 years. She was also a member of the Bleu Valle 8/40 Salon #766. She held many offices in both of these organizations. Dorothy was a member of the Milligan Seniors Club. In earlier years, she belonged to the Goodwill Extension Club, the Fillmore County Extension Chorus and the Kitchen Kalamity Band. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Fred; her parents Fred & Anna Slepicka; siblings Mildred (Steve Bulin), Fred, Lumir (Marie Koehn), Alice (Frank Domling), Irvin (Betty Stetina), and Arlene (Willard Havel). On September 15, 2001, Darlene was united in marriage to Darrell Vodicka and acquired three step children: Ronda & J.D. Korbelik, Billy & Ann Vodicka, and Cheryl Meyer. Her joys in life were her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also dearly loved her children and was proud of them. Darlene was preceded in death by her parents and first husband Gary. She is survived by her husband Darrell; three children and their spouses; three step children and their spouses; nine grandchildren and spouses; four step grandchildren; six great grandchildren; three step great grandchildren; and brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. Sluka and Helen (Bures) Sluka in Geneva. She grew up on a farm near Milligan and Ohiowa. She attended school at Dist. #67 in Fillmore County through 8th grade. She attended High School in Geneva and graduated in 1945. She and several other farm girls from the area lived with Mrs. Lillie J. Davis of Geneva during the week and their fathers would take turns driving them home for weekends. Betty attended York College the summer of 1945 and started teaching in the fall. She started teaching when she was 16. She taught in Fillmore Co. Dist. #32 Chelsie and Dist. # 39 through 1949. She was married to Darien E. Thomsen on January 30, 1949 at the Grace Evangelical Lutheran parsonage in Geneva with the Rev. D. Grummert officiating. Because of the extreme snow that winter only four people could attend the wedding. Betty helped Darien on the farm, as well as raising three children. She did upholstery and refinishing of old furniture, as well as sewing, gardening, and canning. She raised chickens and ducks as well. She was a long time member of the Happy Hour Club that began as an Extension Club and just recently disbanded. She volunteer her help on voting day and also helped with the Census several times. She was baptized on May 10, 1964, the same day as her children were baptized at Grace Methodist Church in Fairmont. She attended the Fairmont Community Church until she moved to Heritage in 2012. Betty was preceded in death by parents, brother Irvin Sluka of Milligan, son Steven Lee Thomsen, granddaughter Kari Probasco, and brothers-in-law Dwaine Thomsen and Paul Bulwan. (Kottas) Sluka on December 28, 1944 in Geneva, Nebraska. Ed was raised on a farm west of Milligan, Nebraska and attended grade school at a rural school. He attended Milligan High School and then went to work for Sweeds Garage in Milligan, as well as farming to help his father who was in poor health. Ed joined the National Guard in 1965; Ed spent 23 years with the National Guard & Army Reserves and was a member of the Hickman Legion. Ed was married to Shirley A. Taylor on March 18, 1967 in Geneva, Nebraska and to this union 3 children were born, Michael Ray, Tamara Jo & Roger Edward. Ed and Shirley celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary this past March. Ed farmed until the fall of 1971, when he moved his family to Lincoln and then to an acreage south of Lincoln. He spent the next 35 years working as a mechanic, retiring in July of 2006. Ed loved working on vehicles and raising his garden, but his favorite things to do were hunting, fishing, and helping his sons on their race cars. It was hard to keep Ed away from farming. He worked his acreage and would save one week of his vacation each year to go to Geneva and help with harvest. Ed's pride and joy were his children and grandchildren. However, Ed was known as "Dad" or "Pops" to many more than just his 3 children, including his adopted family the Mazza's. Evelyn was born on June 6, 1924 near Burress to John E. and Marie (Bernasek) Sluka. She was one of two children in the family. Evelyn attended rural school, and graduated from Geneva High School in 1941. Evelyn began courting Dean Stoldorf after they met at a dance in Burress. They were married on August 14, 1946, and to this union two children were born,, Debra and Rick. Evelyn enjoyed living on the family farm west of Geneva until May 1983. At this time she moved to Geneva and resided in her home until going to Heritage Crossings. Evelyn was a faithful member of the Geneva United Methodist Church for 67 years. She enjoyed her church circle activities and volunteering. She was also a member of the VFW Woman's Auxiliary. She enjoyed polka music, gardening, helping on the farm and raising her children. She was very proud of her grandchildren and all their accomplishments. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband Dean; and daughter Debra; sister-in-law Hazel and Jim Murray; brother-in-law Harold and Vivian Stoldorf. She is survived by her son Rick and Jan Stoldorf; grandchildren, Lindsey and Tori; and sister Mildred Sluka. Funeral services were conducted by Pastor Michelle Gowin and Kim Dunker at the United Methodist Church on Monday, April 13, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. Sondra Myers accompanied Delwin Myers who sang How Great Thou Art and Amazing Grace. Pallbearers were Larry Murray, Don Reinsch, Lambert Hopken, Roger Pittard, Donald Sluka and Ron Boyes. Interment was in the Geneva Public Cemetery. Mildred was born on January 7, 1921 on their family farm near Burress, Nebraska to John E. and Marie (Bernasek) Sluka. She was one of two children in the family. Mildred attended rural school and then took care of her father for many years on their farm. After he passed away Mildred moved to Geneva where she cleaned businesses and homes. She also baby-sat for many years. Mildred then moved to the assisted living at the Fairview Manor in Fairmont, Nebraska. Mildred loved children and her nieces adored her. She would sit on the floor and play with them for hours in her late 80's. Mildred had an intellectual mind, and could remember facts from years ago. She shared numerous stories with us. She loved her Czech heritage, eating kolaches and listening to Shandra Reinsch play her accordion for her. She also enjoyed her special visits from Linda Korbelik. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, John E. and Marie Sluka and her sister, Evelyn Stoldorf. She came to America in 1873 at the age of twenty -six, locating in New York City. In 1874 she was married to Frank Rischling and they continued their residence there for a few years and then returned to the mother-land for twenty two months stay, after which they came back to the United States and located near Milligan, Neb. Two years thereafter they moved onto a farm near Tobias in Saline county and resided there until they retired and moved to Milligan, December 14, 1904. Her husband preceded her in death May 12, 1921. The deceased is survived by seven children, Anton, Frank, Joseph, Mrs. Caroline Korbelik of Nelson, Cristina Uldrich of Deweese , Henry and Ed, besides thirty five grandchildren , thirty four great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. She was one of the pioneers of this community who helped pave the way for a better day, and was one of the oldest residents of this community being at the time of her death 93 years and 17 days of age. She died Saturday evening June 17, 1939 at her home after a lingering illness. Funeral services were conducted from the Kotas funeral chapel Monday afternoon, in charge of Rev. K.O. Zavadil of Wilber. The Milligan trio, Mr and Mrs R.C. Dvorak and Mrs James A. Hamous sang.
