Alex W. "Bud" Powell, 70, passed away at his home in Canyon Lake on March 27, 2010. He retired after 30 years of teaching and also retired after serving 30 years in the U.S. Navy Reserve as Chief Petty Officer. He was born on Dec. 16, 1939 to Carrol and Luetta Orena Weber Powell in Nederland, Texas.
Bud is survived by his wife of 51 years, Janice Cherry Powell. He is also survived by two daughters, Valerie Jerry and husband B. R. of Humble, and LeAnne Powell of Canyon Lake and two sons, Alex W. Powell II and wife Cara of Canyon Lake, and Brian Powell and wife Elvia of Humble.
He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, a sister, Carolyn Lockhart of Port Neches and special friend, Tonya Nevil.
Visitation will start at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, April 2, at First Baptist Church in Canyon Lake. The funeral service will follow visitation at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Fischer Cemetery in Fischer.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to First Baptist Church-Canyon Lake Disaster Relief, Highland Lakes Encampment, or Hope Hospice. Arrangements under the care of Crofts Funeral Home, 911 Mesquite St., Blanco, Texas, 78606, 830-833-4523.
