Richard Powell, 68, passed away Monday, Oct. 3, 2011, in Weatherford. Funeral: 10 a.m. Thursday in White's Chapel of Memories, 130 Houston Avenue, Weatherford. Reverend Allen Sizemore and Reverend John Tunnel will officiate. Interment: 3 p.m. Thursday in the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene.
Memorials: In lieu of usual remembrances, the Powell family suggests consideration of contributions in Richard's name to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, Illinois 60601.
Richard Lee Powell was born Jan. 4, 1943, in Elk City, Okla., son of the late William Donald and Dorothy Strong Powell.
He had a distinguished career in the United States Navy and retired after 23 years of honorable service.
Richard also retired as a LVN from the Middleton Unit of TDCJ.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; and step-father, Herschel Hickman.
Survivors: Wife of 48 years, YuWana Jean Powell of Abilene; daughters, Kelly Powell of Abilene and Lisa Bunch and husband, Craig, of Santo; grandchildren, Alyssa Pugh, Dustin Powell, Tyler Bunch and Owen Bunch; great-granddaughter, Olivya Pugh; brother, Don Powell; nephews, Michael Sizemore, John Paul Noel and wife, Roni, and Eric Powell; great-nephew, Joshua Noel; great-niece, Suzette Noel; and a host of loving family and friends.
