Sarah Ritter (sjritter@compworldnet.com) writes that "Josie Alice Holland, b. 14 Apr 1881 in Johnson Co, TX, is the daughter of John William Holland, b. 2 jun 1838 Carroll Co, TN, and wife, Martha Jane Parrish, b. 9 Nov 1844 Fannin Co, TX. Josie was the next to youngest of 13 children. Siblings are: Wm. Lafayette; Mary Elizabeth; Henry Columbus; Nancy A.; Mary Lucille; Caroline S.; Moses G.; Jefferson Needham; Lemuel B.; John Edgar; Lillie B.; and Merrett Wise Holland."

When Edna applied for Social Security Benefits in 1972, based on her husband's earnings, they were living in Houston, at 2500 Glen Haven, 77025. She was 67 years old at the time. Her parents were shown as William Granville Pointer and Alice Josie Holland. She was born on April 23, 1905 in Milburn, McCullough, Texas.

Did she and Denton divorce? The following record, from the Rootsweb Texas Death Index, appears to be for Edna A. Kerr. She is listed as single however.

Pointer and Alice Holland, and indicates she was born in Rochelle, Texas versus Milburn, she was also listed as married, so presumably the death index was in error. The informant was Denton Kerr.

Called "Bee," after his middle name, which was simply the initial B. On his form SS-5, he is listed as Marion B. Pointer, other sources list him as Manne B. Pointer. In 1937, he lived in Kirbyville, and was working for Oscar Baker in Silsbee.

The digital image of his actual Texas Death Certificate, viewable online at FamilySearch.org, Texas Deaths, 1890-1976, shows him as Mannie B. Pointer, and lists his locaton of birth as Placid, Texas. He is shown as the son of Granville Pointer and Alice Holland. He was a veteran of WWII, and died at the VA Hospital in Houston, the information on his death certicate was obtained from his records on file with the Veterans Administration. His usual occupation was an automobile mechanic. He was buried at the VA Cemetery.

The "William Rupert Kerr Lecture in Obstetrics and Gynecology" was established at the University of Texas Medical Branch by Dr. and Mrs. Charles Denton Kerr in memory of their son, Dr. William Rupert Kerr, who practiced obstetrics and gynecology with his father in Houston until he died unexpectedly of a heart attack in 1968. His Texas Death Certificate, viewable online at FamilySearch.org, Texs Deaths, 1890-1976, shows that he was married at the time of his death, contradicting the Texas Death Index on which he was shown as single. He was listed as a Physician, and a veteran serving during the Korean conflict. His cause of death was listed as Ischemic heart disease and coronary artery disease, both of which he suffered from for 9 1/3 years. The informant was Denton Kerr, his father.
