In the book Genealogical Abstract from the Georgia Journal (Milledgeville) Newspaper 1809-1840, Volume One, 1809-1818, page 358, Issue of February 8, 1815 we find: "Died on Wednesday evening the 25th inst. in Franklin County, Mrs. Mary Allen, wife of Captain James Allen, after a lingering parturition. In the death of this amiable woman, a husband has lost an affectionate wife (made more so by his absence in defense of his country) to her children a tender mother....

Sharon Holland provided to me some interesting information recently re: the children of Jacob and Priscillia Strickland originally of Guilford County, NC:

"5. Mary was born October 17, 1773, and married John Gilbert, brother to William, and settled in Franklin County Georgia where he died. She then married James Allen and moved to Habersham County Georgia where she died leaving 5 Gilbert children named: Bill, Jim, Betsy, John, and Nancy, and three Allen children namely Thomps, Bob, and Henry."

Online trees also show Mary and James as the mother of David, Thomps, John and Harriet, without citing sources.

Family/Spouse: John Gilbert. John was born about 1773; died about 1803 in Franklin County, Georgia. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Mary married James Allan about 1807. James was born between 1767 and 1787 in England, United Kingdom; died on 27 Feb 1843 in Habersham County, Georgia. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Sharon Holland provided to me some interesting information recently re: Mary Strickland's two marriages:

"5. Mary was born October 17, 1773, and married John Gilbert, brother to William, and settled in Franklin County Georgia where he died. If Mary was married around age 18 had 8 children, averaging one every two years, her children would have been born between 1791 and 1807 in Georgia. I noticed she had one son by James Allen named THOMPS ALLEN.

Could this be the same THOMPSON ALLEN, born ca 22 December 1802 in Elbert County, Georgia, that married Elizabeth WOOLDRIDGE OF Abbeville District, South Carolina and later settled in Sabine County, Texas? Elbert County is near both Franklin County and Habersham County, Georgia. I do not have any information about Thompson Allen's parentage, but it appears that both his birth year and birth location could very easily make him a son of Mary Strickland by her second husband James Allen. Additionally, many of the early settlers of Sabine County, Texas were descendants of the Strickland family. In fact, Lily Ethur Carter estimated at least 60% of the early settlers were Stricklands.

Harriet married Madison Strickland on 13 Nov 1834 in Habersham County, Georgia. Madison (son of Hardy "Devil" Strickland and Priscilla Ann Strickland) was born on 25 Sep 1812 in Georgia; died on 12 Sep 1895 in Jackson County, Georgia. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Mary married George Eberhart Deadwyler on 22 Feb 1860 in Georgia. George was born on 18 Dec 1835 in Elbert County, Georgia; died on 24 Oct 1909 in Maysville, Jackson County, Georgia. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Harriet married Charles Edward Moore on 1 Apr 1884 in Maysville, Jackson County, Georgia. Charles was born on 8 Jan 1853 in Athens, Clarke County, Georgia; died on 15 Jul 1923 in Maysville, Jackson County, Georgia. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
