    Gaylon Roygene Ferguson, 73, of Pineland, Texas passed away Sunday, November 12, 2023 at his residence.

    Gaylon was born June 29, 1950 in Hemphill, Texas to Willie Samuel Ferguson and Nettie Irene Rogers Ferguson. He was a lifelong resident of Sabine County and had served as a member of the United States Air Force and attended Sam Houston University where he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree. He opened Piney Woods Nursery in Pineland in 1978 and there he kept his customers supplied with all their gardening and landscaping needs until his retirement in 2016. He moved to Mount View, Arkansas after retiring and returned to Pineland in 2021.

    He was a longtime member of Pineland Church of Christ. He truly loved gardening, taking particular interest in his blueberries and his roses.

    Gaylon was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Nettie Ferguson; wife, Diana Jordan Ferguson; brothers, Glynn Ferguson and Ronny Jay Ferguson; and sisters, Lorene Waetjen, Katherine Chance and Eva Gordy Lunsford.

    He is survived by his brothers, Donald Paul Ferguson of Livingston, Johnny Ray Ferguson of Lake Jackson, and Bertz Ferguson of Pineland; stepsons, Harrison Tyler Hodges of Yellville, AR and Richard Adam Hodges of Beaumont; four step grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

    Graveside services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 18, 2023 in Springhill Cemetery under the direction of Starr Funeral Home with Tommy Coward officiating.
