    Notes:

Knoxville Weekly Chronicle: Wednesday, December 23, 1874

James Murphy, only child of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas B. McLeore, passed from earht through the pearly gates of the "Heavenly Eden" on the morning of the 14th last. He was a bright and promising child of 14 monhts of age, and was the idol of their home.

When in the arms of their physician he began to sink into death's cold embrace and was surrounded by a number of weeping friends who mingled their tears of sorrow with those of his fond parents which were wrung from their almost breaking hearts by such a scene.

A short funeral service was held at their residence in Mechanisville, at Tuesday morning, by Rev. J. F. Goldman, assisted by Rev. Mr. Thomas after which was sweetly sung "Waiting for Thee."

The body which was laid in a silver mounted coffin, upon which was inscribed in the center, "Our Darling," was conveyed to the residence of James M. Murphy in the country, where Rev. Mr. Goldman preached a short and impressive funeral sermon which was replete with words of tenderness and comfort to the mourning friends. From there the remains were followed to the family burying ground near to where the officiating minister read the beautiful burial services of the Methodist Chruch, when his angelic form was committed to the dust."
