Opal Burkett Walton of Longview, TX passed away at her home Sunday morning, January 16, 2011 with her family by her side.

Mrs. Walton was born May 27, 1925 at Hemphill, TX to Britt and Lelia Burkett. She was the third of ten children.

Mrs. Walton attended school at Rodessa, LA, graduating in 1942.

She married H.N. (Tiny) Walton of McLeod, TX on February 23, 1943.

Mrs. Walton was a 25 year member of the Golden Light Chapter of the American Business Women's Association of Longview. Her work experience included Kress' of Shreveport, LA, Montgomery Ward of Seminole, TX and Ponca City, OK, McWilliam's Furniture Store of Longview, TX and Longview Refinning Co as a clerk.

Mrs. Walton is survived by her husband and children: daughters Judy Hill and husband James of Canyon, TX, Diane Walker and husband Ron of Blackwell, OK, son Ricky Walton and wife Vonne of Chico, TX, six grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Six sisters: Ruby Yates and husband Wade of Jefferson, TX, Lavern Ballard of Broussard, LA, Verlene Daniels of Liberty, TX, Maxine Pate of Pineland, TX, Jean Windham and husband Jim of Deer Park, TX, sister-in-law Marcelyn Bankhead of Longview, TX and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and three brothers.

Mrs. Walton attended the Church of Christ on McCann Road.

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Wednesday, January 19, 2011 in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at the funeral home. Entombment will follow in the Rosewood Park Mausoleum.

The family suggest in lieu of flowers persons wishing to honor Mrs. Walton may donate to their favorite charity.

Ruby Yates, age 87, of Jefferson, Texas, went to be with the Lord, Thursday, November 12, 2015, in a Dallas, Texas hospital.

Ruby was born November 21, 1927, in Bronson, Texas, to E. B. and Lela Burkett. She was a homemaker, member of McLeod Tabernacle and loved spending time with family, sewing and reading. She was preceded in death by three brothers, E.L. Burkett, Gearld Burkett and Kenneth Burkett; three sisters, Idell Varnell, Laverne Burkett and Opal Walton.

She is survived by her husband, Wade Yates of Jefferson, Texas; three children, Royce Yates and wife Judy of Shreveport, Louisiana, Brenda Yates of Houston, Texas, Gary Yates, Sr. and wife Darlene of McLeod, Texas; three sisters, Jean Windham of Houston, Texas, Verlene Daniels of Houston, Texas, Maxine Pate of Pineland, Texas; eight grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Sunday, November 15, 2015, at McLeod Tabernacle, under the direction of Hanner Funeral Service with Bro. J.P. Story officiating.

Visitation will be Saturday, November 14, 2015 from 6 pm to 8 pm at McLeod Tabernacle.

Interment will be in Good Exchange Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to McLeod Tabernacle Building Fund, P. O. Box 93, McLeod, Texas 75565.

HEMPHILL - Gerald Wayne Burkett, 80, died in a Longview nursing home after an illness. He was born in Sarepta, Louisiana, to E.B. and Lela Pennington Burkett. Gerald was a merchandise manager for Wilson Sporting Goods before retiring. He was a former resident of Dallas before moving to Longview.

Mr. Burkett is survived by six sisters: Ruby Yates of Jefferson, Texas, Opal Walton of Longview, Verline Daniels of Liberty, Maxine Pate of Pineland, Jean Windham of Deer Park, Texas, and Laverne Ballard of Broussard, Louisiana. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. until funeral service time at 12:30 p.m. in the Starr Funeral Home Chapel, 510 Starr St., Hemphill, Texas. Burial will follow in the Plainview Cemetery near Bronson, Texas.

Maxine Burkett Pate, 83, of Pineland, Texas passed away Saturday, December 5, 2020 at the Nacogdoches Medical Center.

Maxine was born in Rodessa, Louisiana on April 6, 1937 to Britt Burkett and Lela Pennington Burkett.

She is survived by her sons, Philip Pate and wife, Brenda of Pineland, Rodney Pate and wife, Rose of Etoile, and David Pate of Pineland; grandchildren, Jeremy Pate of Pineland, Josh Pate of Pineland, Jessica Dudley and husband, Cheyenne of Lumberton, Lauren Pate of Nacogdoches, and Destiny Pate of Pineland; her sister, Gloria Jean Windham and husband, Jimmy of Deer Park, Texas; and a host of great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Britt and Lela Burkett; her husband, Elwood Pate; brothers, Gerald Wayne Burkett, Kenneth Burkett and E.L. Burkett; sisters, Idell Barnett, Opal Walton, Laverne Ballard, Ruby Yates, and Verlene Darter.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. till 6:00 p.m. Sunday, December 6, 2020 at Starr Funeral Home Chapel, 510 Starr Street Hemphill, Texas.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 7, 2020 at Starr Funeral Home Chapel, 510 Starr Street Hemphill, Texas with Pam Lundburg officiating.

Burial will follow services in Bronson Cemetery.
