Mrs. John Striffler

Word has been received of the death of Mrs. John Striffler at her home in Lockport, New York. Ida E. LEINBACH died Sunday, Jun. 18, and funeral services were held Wednesday from the home, 27 Sunnyside Street.

Interment was at Chesnut Ridge cemetery. She is survived by her husband, one daughter, Mrs. Walter J. RILEY, three sons, Glenn, Roy and Floyd, six grandchildren, one brother and three sisters. Mrs. Striffler is a cousin of the Strifflers in Cass City.

Niagara Falls Gazette, Monday, June 19,1933, page 1: LOCKPORT - June 19 - Mrs. Ida E. Striffler, 69 years old, wife of John Striffler died last night at the family home at 27 Sunnyside street. Mrs. Striffler was born in Clarence and had resided in this city for the past 32 years. She was a member of the First Baptist church. Besides her husband she is survived by one daughter, three sons, one brother and three sisters. Funeral services will be held from the home on Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock. John (son of David Striffler and Sophia Muck) was born in Jul 1864 in Lancaster, Erie County, New York; died on 14 Jan 1952 in Buffalo, Erie County, New York; was buried in Huskey Cemetery, Chestnut Ridge Road, Niagara County, New York. Lockport - Glenn A. Striffler, 83, of 1564 Franklin St., Olcott, Died Saturday (Jan. 3, 1970) at Newfane Inter-Community Memorial Hospital after a long illness.

A native of the Rapids, he was born Aug 18, 1886, son of John and Ida Leinbach Striffler. He had formerly lived in Lockport, moving to Olcott five years ago.

He was a retired inspection foreman for the Harrison Radiator Division, General Motors Corp., where he had worked for many years. He retired in 1964. He was a member of the Methodist Church of Olcott, the Foreman's Club of Harrison's and a former member of the United Lodge 98, IOOF.

He is survived by his widow, Ruth Hancock Striffler; two sons, Leslie J. of Gasport and William A. of Olcott; a step-son, Charles Hancock of Atlanta, Ga., a brother, Floyd Striffler of Lockport; a sister, Mrs. Mabel Riley of Kenmore; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Harry R. Lee will officiate.

Burial will be in Cold Spring Cemetery.

The STRIFFLER-BENKELMAN BROACAST-1964 reported that Mr. Walter Riley and Mabel Striffler Riley of Kenmore, N.Y., a Buffalo suburb, were celebrating their wedding of 1914 (just 50 years ago in June) when Mr. and Mrs. Stanley A. Striffler made a short visit to Buffalo on the cruise ship the S.S. South American. Besides reminiscing about their wedding trip to Cass City, the Rileys took the Strifflers on a tour of the Towanda area and the Riley Gear Plant. Mabel is of the John Striffler family in New York and related news of the Lockport contingent of the family.

Oil Salesman, 72, Is Killed As Cars Crash in Beebe Road

NEWFANE - A 72 year old salesman for the Dahl Oil Co. here for the last five years was killed instantly at 9:58 a.m. today in a head-on , two-car crackup in rain-slicked Beebe Road, about a mile north of Ridge Road. Roy C. Striffler, 566 High St., was pronounced dead at the scene by County Coroner Dr. George V. Muscato. Death was due to head and internal injuries according to the Sheriff's Department.

Chester L. Borget, 21, of 2720 Ridge Road, Ransomville, the other drive , was shaken up and treated and released at Ransomville General Hospital.

Sheriff's Deputies William M. Sibolski, William H. Munch and Paul E. Crane, and Criminal Deputy John W. Cole investigated.

Mr. Borget told the deputies he was traveling north in Beebe Road and that the Striffler car was headed south when the collision occured. He said the Striffler car apparently was attempting to make a left turn into a driveway.

Fred Dahl, owner of the Dahl firm, Park Avenue, said Mr. Striffler left the office this morning to collect bills and that he was "in his usual good spirits." He said Mr. and Mrs. Striffler had celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in June.

Mr. Striffler, who formerly operated the Elevated Coal Co., Lockport, for several years, had been a salesman for the Dahl firm since Jan 1, 1957. Before working at Dahl's he had been a salesman for the Crosby-Whipple Oil Col, here.

Surviving besides his wife, are a daughter, Mrs. Clement H. Whitmore, and two brothers, Floyd and Glen Striffler, all of Lockport. Funeral arrancgements were being made.
