Abt 1738 - 1798 (~ 60 years)
Generation: 1
1. | Ephraim McLemore, Jr. was born about 1738 in Surry County, North Carolina; died in 1798 in Surry County, North Carolina. Notes:
James L. McLemore, III writes that "It is possibly the younger Ephraim who is listed in 1768 on the Rowan County tax list. Rowan County, NC lies about halfway between Charlotte and Winston-Salem, hence it is in the west-central portion of the state, far from the centers of early McLemore settlement. He is known to have died in 1798, at age 60, in Surry County, North Carolina, which lies northwest of Winston-Salem, along the Virginia line. He probably arrived there by 1781, when he witnessed the will of Joseph MASTERS dated June 14th of that year. Ephraim Macklemore Jr. owed certain monies to the estate of one Robert WALKER in 1784, which remained unpaid as late as 1786, all in Surry County. The first U.S. Census places him in Surry County in 1790, and his will was probated in that county in 1798.
(James L. McLemore, III, pp 47, 48).
James McKinney shows an earlier arrival date to Surry County than James L. McLemore does. Mr. McKinney states that Ephraim was on the 1775 Surry County, NC Tax List. He also noted that in 1778 he entered 570 acres of land on the county line on a small branch of Hunters Creek, being the land "he now lives on."
James L. McLemore indicates that "In his will, he names his wife Hannah (who was left the use of all of his property while she remained a widow), sons Sterling, Wright, William, John, and Gilliam, and daughters Martha JONES, Kersey CONNA, Hannah McLemore, Rebecca McLemore, Fanny McLemore, and Sally McLemore. One of his executors was a Nicholas MASTERS; recalling that Ephraim Jr witnessed the will of Joseph MASTERS in 1781, it is possible that we have here a connection between the Masters family and Ephraim Jr."
Dr. Leverett also notes that Ephraim was listed in Captain Jeffrey's Company in 1754 of the Granville Co Militia (Colonial Granville Co and its People, Worth Ray). Vol. 22, p. 370-380 N.C. State Records: Ephraim McLemore Private in Captain Osborne Jeffrey's Company, Co. C. William Eaten's Regt, Granville Co., N.C, Oct 8, 1754. James McKinney instead shows that he served as a Private in the Reg. of Col. William Eaton of Granville Couny.
The 1790 Surry Co NC census shows 1 white male 16+, 3 white males 16-; and 5 females. The 1810 N.C. census shows an E. McLemore in Bladen Co. (Source: Dr. Rudy Leverett note card on Ephraim McLemore).

Generation: 2
2. | Sterling McLemore (1.Ephraim1) was born about 1765 in North Carolina; died on 17 May 1814 in Fayette County, Kentucky. Notes:
James McKinney writes that Sterling paid taxes on 200 acres of land on Skaggs Creek as early as 1806, and may have been there earlier. McKinney also writes that in April 1805, William Bethuram (sic), a neighbor of Sterling's, married a Sarah McLemore. It is not known if this was Sterlings' youngest sister, Sally, or a daughter of Sterling's.
James McKinney adds that the land Sterling paid taxes on was on James Thompson's 4266 acre landgrant. Sterling did not have a deed to the property. In April 1807 James Kincaid bought the entire landgrant from Thompson's heirs. Sterling was present and was a witness, when the deed was made.
Paul Williams, noted, however that In a book dealing with Rockcastle (Kentucky) Pioneers it mentions a William Bethurum marrying a MARY McLemore in 1805 not Sarah/Sally---and that per another article dated 14 Oct 1987 "Family Research Manager" Loren C. Beougher of Raytown, MO cited "William Bethurum marriage to Mary McLemore 5 Apr 1805, Pulaski Co., KY"-- William is son of Benjamin -- Paul also noticed that one of the siblings of William & Mary [his name is Allen] also was shown as married to a McLemore.
Melba Gene McLemore shows that on the 1782 Surry County, NC Tax List he had no land, one horse, and a total taxable valuation of 6 pounds. She further indicated that the Feb. 1786 NC State Census for Surry County lists Sterlin, over 21, with a wife and two sons a two daughters. On February 25, 1787, he witnessed a deed for his father, in the Surry County Deed Book D:20. He is also indexed in the 1799 Deed Book G:113, Ephraim McLemore, deceased to Sterling McLemore.

3. | Wright McLemore (1.Ephraim1) was born after 1767 in North Carolina; died about 1829. Notes:
James McKinney indicated that Wright was on Skaggs Creek in 1806 paying taxes on 100 acres of Thompson's land. He was also on the 1810 and 1820 Census of Rockcastle County.
Richard Gentry made claim for Revolutionary service under the 1832 law. He said he was born in Lunenburg Co.Va. Dec.27, 1755. He resided in Union District near the Tiger River in 1780 he served under Col.James Cotton in the battle of Cowpens and battle of King's Mountian. Richard married in 1793 Gestin daughter of Ayres Hedgepeth. Soldier died in Rockcastle Co.Ky. Feb.13, 1836
On the 7th day of April 1855 Jestin Gentry aged 80 years a resident of Rockcastle Co. she states that her husband Richard Gentry rec'd $48.39 per. She states she was married to Richard Gentry in Surry Co.N.C. by William Elliot and her name before she marrried was Gestin Hudspeth. She was making claim for bounty land on the 3rd day of March 1855.
In Nov.17, 1842 Wright McClemore a resident of Lincoln Co.Ky. made an affadavit for Jenstin. He states "I lived about 4 miles from Gestin in Surry Co.N.C. He states do to the excessive rain he did not attend the wedding of Richard Gentry and Jestin but his neighbors did" He further states that Richard Gentry and his wife visited his father many times. "They had children in North Carolina and more after moving to Kentucky." He further states that his brother Gilliam made affadavit for Richard Gentry to receive his pension.
Richard Gentry's pension application is #4332
Revolutionary War Pension Applications, National Archives Microfilm. File W8844, (BLWt 26713-160-55): Richard GENTRY, widow Justina or Gestin, [also Justin, Justiney, Gestiney] of Rockcastle Co. KY. Credited with 13 months service as a private in SC militia.
Richard Gentry appeared in Rockcastle County court, KY, 12 Sep 1832, age 77 years as of next Dec. 27th [born 27 Dec 1755]. Testified that he had first volunteered for service in SC militia from Union District, SC, near the Tyger River [about 1780]... He gave his birthplace as Lunenburg Co. VA, and had lived three years in Lincoln Co. KY before moving to Rockcastle Co.
Gestin [Gentry] appeared in Rockcastle Co. court on 25 Nov 1839, age given as 70 years, to apply for widow benefits. She stated that she was married to Richard Gentry in the spring season of 1792 (she did not recall the month), and was married in [Surry Co., NC]. She stated that Richard died 13 Feb 1836.
Gestin appeared again on 23 Jun 1842, age given again as 70 years, to testify further as to Richard's war service. She stated that she knew Richard before and during his service, but she was young and she did not know how he entered the service or where he served except what Richard told her after they were married. She recalled that he entered service in SC--she was living at the time in NC. Nathaniel Aldridge, who lived 2 or 3 miles from Gestin in Surry Co. testified that her father was Ayres Hedgepe

4. | Martha McLemore (1.Ephraim1) was born about 1773 in Granville County, North Carolina; died on 1 Jun 1798. Notes:
Nan Harvey (nanharvey@gmail.com) shows that she married a JONES.
|
5. | Kersey McLemore (1.Ephraim1) was born about 1775 in North Carolina; died about 1798. Notes:
Also sometimes instead listed as "Carey" or "Hessy Carey." Duane Hansen (mr-duey2000@yahoo.com) shows that she married Daniel Conner on 6 July 1795 in Surry County, North Carolina.
|
9. | William McLemore (1.Ephraim1) was born between 1768 and 1785 in North Carolina; and died. Notes:
Not shown as a child of Ephriam and Hannah by Douglas Wright.
|
10. | Gilliam McLemore (1.Ephraim1) was born between 1782 and 1784 in North Carolina; died about 1860. Notes:
James McKinney writes that he was born in Surry County, and was on the Rockcastle census in 1810 and on the 1811 tax list. he had 100 acres of land from the Thompson grant. he was on all Rockcastle census records from 1810 to 1860. He was also a veteran of the War of 1812.
MaryLynn Santa shows his wife was a SARAH, and instead shows the location of death as Rockcastle, Trigg County, Kentucky. There was a 60 year old Sarah living with Gilliam and his children at the time of the 1850 census, but she was listed after the rest of the family. Additionally, a 78 year old Sarah CURLY, widowed, was living with Gilliam's son Wright, and not with Gilliam at the time of the 1860 census.
Gillam came to Lincoln Co. Ky. and he made affadavit for Gestin Hudspeth Gentry, Ayres daughter, for her to get a Revolutionary Pension based on her husbands service.

11. | John McLemore (1.Ephraim1) was born between 1785 and 1790 in Surry County, North Carolina; died in Kentucky. Notes:
John is shown by several researchers to have married Ruth Steelman. Ruth's dates are 1790-1850. A marraige date of 7 April 1810 in Surry County, North Carolina is shown. This should be verified.
Paul Williams excerpted information from a paper about the family of Ephraim McLemore written by James M. McKinney. McKinney indicated that there was a John McLemore on the 1811 Rockcastle Co. Tax list, but that there did not seem to be further reference to him in the Rockcastle records.
Douglas McLemore is working to prove he is descended from this line, as follows:
James McLemore (1662-1735) -- Fortain Gilliam (1668-????)
|
Ephraim McLemore (????-????) -- Unknown (????-????)
|
Ephraim McLemore (????-????) -- Hannah Hudspeth (1740-1798)

|
Douglas McLemore
He is certain from himself up to Eliza McLemore showing her children including Hiram Greene in both 1860 in KY then IN in 1880. Census data also connects Hiram Greene McLemore to his great grand father Andrew Jackson McLemore in IN and then IL. In KY in 1850 Eliza is shown with her children (including Hiram) and also what is believed to be her mother-in-law Ruth (Steelman) McLemore. What seems to be missing is the husbands of both Eliza and Ruth (which Doug got from hearsay were both widowed). This makes it difficult to connect everything back to James and Abraham Macklamore.
He has also found deed records of the right time (1870s) in Salem, Washington County, Indiana to show both Nancy Ellen Heiffner and an Elizabeth Ellen McLemore buying property there. He suspects Elizabeth Ellen is synonomous with Eliza. He also found the wedding license for Nancy Ellen Heiffner and Hiram Greene McLemore, and has electric photos of all of these records including the plot map from 1878 showing N. McLemore on one of the plots.

12. | Sally McLemore (1.Ephraim1) was born between 1786 and 1791 in North Carolina; and died. Notes:
Could this be the Sally (Mary?) McLemore that married William Bethurum in 1805?
Several sources show "William Bethurum marriage to Mary McLemore 5 Apr 1805, Pulaski Co., KY", though in some sources the wifes name is shown as Sally. William Bethurum was said to be a neighbor of Sterling McLemore, Sally's eldest brother.

THOUGHT to be the brother to Sterling C. McLemore by Melba Gene McLemore, family researcher. He also ended up in Arkansas.
Foide Williams, in a post to the McLemore Family Genealogy Forum, writes that: "The 1820 census of Lincoln Co, Tn (pg 14) shows Sterling C. McLemore and (pg 30) Signer Allen (who married Rebecca McLemore), Benjamin Wright (who married Hannah McLemore), James R. Brown (who married Martha McLemore), and Joel McLemore. These are all from Fayette Co, KY and apparently traveled together to Lincoln Co, TN."

Distressing Accident
Capt. Stirling C. M'LEMORE, of this county, was last evening dangerously wounded by the accidental discharge of a rifle. While sitting upon the fence with his gun upon his knees, it slipped, when on catching it suddenly and drawing the muzzle toward him it fired at half bent. The ball, we are informed by the surgeon, entered a little below the left breast, passed the cavity and lodged in the point of his left shoulder...He was living this morning, but his life is considered to be in imminent danger.

17. | Martha McLemore (2.Sterling2, 1.Ephraim1) was born between 1793 and 1795 in North Carolina; and died. Notes:
Melba Gene McLemore shows that she married James R. BROWN.

(Research):Census Listing:
Melba Gene McLemore thinks it POSSIBLE the census listing b
elow is that of Martha McLemore Brown. There are several significant differences that need to be resolved before assuming this with certainty. (Name of Spouse, place of birth, relationship of Martha to the older Augustine Clayborne of Virginia in the same home, etc)

18. | Hannah McLemore (2.Sterling2, 1.Ephraim1) was born between 1794 and 1800 in North Carolina. Notes:
Foide Williams, in a post to the McLemore Family Genealogy Forum, writes that: "The 1820 census of Lincoln Co, Tn (pg 14) shows Sterling C. McLemore and (pg 30) Signer Allen (who married Rebecca McLemore), Benjamin Wright (who married Hannah McLemore), James R. Brown (who married Martha McLemore), and Joel McLemore. These are all from Fayette Co, KY and apparently traveled together to Lincoln Co, TN."
http://www.jenforum.org/mclemore/messages/768.html
According to "Mt. Hermon Baptist Church, Lincoln County, Tennessee" by Betty Via, Hannah Wright was an 1833 constituting member, wife of Benjamin Wright; on the 1840 membership list; granted letter n.d; joined by letter, June, 1844; on 1852 membership list. A footnote after her name indicates that Hannah's maiden name appears to be McLemore, [but that] research still inconclusive.
Julia Molitz (jmolitz@cox.net), a member of the "Chesnut Ridge Cousins" genealogy study group indicated that she could not find Benjamin and Hannah any place on the 1850 or 1860 census, but did find a Benjamin and Mary H. WRIGHT on the 1850 TN Census and the same family on the 1860 Berry Co., MO census, but did not know if this family was the same one that lived in Lincoln County (now Moore County), Tennessee.
Julia further indicates that census records show that Benjamin and Hannah had about ten children, seven girls and three boys, but that the identity of all the children is not yet conclusive.
Citing the book "Mt. Hermon Baptist Church, Lincoln County, Tennessee" by Betty Via, she suspects that the "Mary [Wright] that was received by experience, September 1855; granted letter, August 1859 must have been a daughter of Benjamin and Hannah. Rebecca WRIGHT must have been a daughter of Benjamin and Hannah as well." The book itself notes that an Elizabeth Wright, on the 1852 church membership list, is also believed to have been one of the daughters of Benjamin and Hannah.
Hannah married Benjamin Wright on 19 Sep 1814 in Fayette County, Kentucky. Benjamin was born about 1794 in Lincoln County, Tennessee; died after 1840 in Lincoln County, Tennessee. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
Children:
- 45. James Wright was born about 1816 in Kentucky; died about 1855 in Mississippi.
- 46. William P. Wright was born after 1816 in Kentucky; died after 1860.
- 47. Joel Wright was born about 1818 in Tennessee; died about 1866 in Indiana.
- 48. Maybe Julia Ann Wright was born about 1834 in Tennessee; died after 1870 in Marian, Williamson County, Illinois.

19. | Probably Wright McLemore, Of Arkansas (2.Sterling2, 1.Ephraim1) was born about 1800 in North Carolina; died about 1849 in Jefferson County, Arkansas. Notes:
Melba Gene McLemore noted that in both the April 7, 1824 and July 5, 1826 issue of THE VILLAGE MESSENGER, published in Fayetteville, Lincoln County, Tennessee, a Wright McLEMORE was listed among those for whom dead letters were being held at the Fayetteville Post Office.
This makes him very likely a brother of Joel and Sterling McLemore, whose families were in Fayetteville, Tennessee during this same time frame.
More information can be found in the notes section of "Wright McLemore of Arkansas", born ca 1800, North Carolina.

20. | Rebecca Elizabeth McLemore (2.Sterling2, 1.Ephraim1) was born about 1802 in North Carolina; and died. Notes:
Melba Gene McLemore notes that she married Signer/Signor ALLEN. Foide Williams, in a post to the McLemore Family Genealogy Forum, writes that: "The 1820 census of Lincoln Co, Tn (pg 14) shows Sterling C. Her Kentucky death certificate, provided by Paul Williams, shows her as a daughter of Gill McLemore, mother not listed. Her cause of death was simply noted as "old age." The informant was W. V. Kirby.
Cynthia married Jeremiah "Jerry" Marsh Kirby between 1845 and 1846. Jeremiah was born on 28 Mar 1824 in Rockcastle County, Kentucky; died on 27 Feb 1911 in Rockcastle County, Kentucky; was buried in Skaggs Creek Cemetery, Rockcastle County, Kentucky. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

31. | Georgiana McLemore (14.Joel3, 2.Sterling2, 1.Ephraim1) was born on 15 Sep 1834 in Tennessee; and died. Notes:
She was said to have married Frank BROWN on January 1, 1856, likely in Austin, Travis County, Texas. Melba Gene McLemore has corresponded with Anne GILBERT (lgilbert2@earthlink.net AND lgilbert@bigfoot.com) about this family. Apparently this family eventually ended up in Lockhart, Texas.
Georgiana married Frank Brown on 1 Jan 1856 in Austin, Travis County, Texas. Frank was born on 26 Jun 1833 in Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee; died on 27 Jan 1913 in Austin, Travis County, Texas; was buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Austin, Travis County, Texas. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
Children:
- 68. Effie Brown was born about 1858 in Texas; died on 11 Jan 1947 in Robstown, Nueces County, Texas; was buried in Austin, Travis County, Texas.

36. | Possibly William McLemore (15.Abner3, 2.Sterling2, 1.Ephraim1) was born between 1818 and 1835; and died. Notes:
Melba McLemore thinks Abner may be the father of the William McLemore, born between 1832 and 1825 in Tennessee, and who lived in Mississippi near Abner and Sterling McLemore at the time of the 1870 and 1880 Federal Census enumerations.
There was another William McLemore, born between 1818 and 1821, who was living in Lawrence County, Alabama at the time of the 1860 and 1870 Federal Census enumerations. Abner McLemore was a former resident of Lawrence County, Alabama. At the time of the 1860 census, his occupation was shown as shoemaker, which is the same occupation Abner McLemore reported at the time of the 1860 census.
Both William's are good fits as possible sons of Abner McLemore, and at this time it is not known which one of them, if either, are actually his son. Both are indexed in these files with their families.

38. | Lucretia Jane McLemore (15.Abner3, 2.Sterling2, 1.Ephraim1) was born between 1826 and 1830 in Alabama; died about 1903 in Chickasaw County, Mississippi. Notes:
Melba Gene McLemore has her date of birth as September, 1830 (based on the 1900 census enumeration), however this is several years younger than the ages shown on the earlier, 1850 and 1860, enumerations.

Also living in Chickasaw County at the time of the 1870 census was William McLemore, thought to be a brother of Sterling, and a 25 year old Frank McLemore, also born in Alabama, relationship unknown. Additionally, a Moses McLamore, age 42 and born in Georgia, was living near Sterling in 1870 (Mississippi, Chickasaw, Twp 15, Sparta P.O., Page 36). His relationship is not known either. His household was made up of himself, wife Ellen B age 31, Miss, and children Charles, 19, William, 17, John, 15 or 13, and Elizabeth, 10. All the children were born in Mississippi.

40. | Mariah A. McLemore (15.Abner3, 2.Sterling2, 1.Ephraim1) was born about 1833 in Alabama; died about 1901. Notes:
It is assumed that Mariah is the daughter of Abner McLemore, due to her proximity to Abner's sons on the 1860 through 1900 Calhoun County, Mississippi census, and the fact that a McLemore was living with her family in 1880. However the transcription of her marriage record shows her last name as Lemon, and further shows her as being born in South Carolina. Therefore more work should be done to proof or disprove this connection.
Another Mariah McLemore could instead be Abner's daughter. This second Mariah McLemore was born ca 1835 and married Charles Pinckney Campbell on 6 Oct 1861 in Lawerence County, Mississippi. The Mariah that married Charles Campbell is an ancestor of Lisa Coker Thigpen. (LisaHeb138@aol.com).

43. | Eliza Jane McLemore (16.Sterling3, 2.Sterling2, 1.Ephraim1) was born on 6 Dec 1819 in Lincoln County, Tennessee; died on 23 May 1883 in Texas; was buried in Honey Creek Cemetery, Hico, Hamilton County, Texas. Notes:
In Betty Via's book about the Mt. Hermon Baptist Church of Lincoln County, Tennesse, an Eliza Wright, member 1840, joined by letter, June 1844, is listed. Betty notes that this Eliza is believed to be the wife of James Wright.
Douglas Wright shows that after James died, she married second, around 1860, Jack Thompson (1815-1870). Melba Gene McLemore reports that Jack was also said to be buried in Honey Creek Cemetery, but if so his headstone is long gone as it can not be seen in this cemetery.
Melba Gene McLemore provided the following excerpt of a letter from her ancestor, Keton Jones McLemore, that relates to Eliza Jane McLemore Wright Thompson:
Keton's Letter March 1, 1870 (Partial)
:
"If you hear from Thad, don't fail to let me know immediately, --- I rec'd. a letter from your cousin Jack yesterday, he was then at your cousin Eliza Thompsons in Travis Co. & I have just answered his letter, directed my letter to Onion Creek, care of Sterling J. Wright, and if Jack should be at your home, as he spoke something in his letter of coming there, you can inform him of that fast."

S. J. McLemore, a pioneer of Tullahoma, was born in Lincoln County, Tenn., December 29, 1822, and is the son of S. J. (sic) and Martha (Whitaker) McLemore, natives of North Carolina. The father died in 1825 and the mother in 1880. Our subject reared on the farm, remained there until his marriage to Margaret J. Ward in 1841, when he removed to Nashville and entered the produce business. In 1851 he came to Tullahoma. He sold goods until the civil war and after the close of the same entered the livery business. In 1876 he began merchandising, continuing at that until January, 1886. His wife died in 1881. In 1883 he married Ruthea J. Gross, a native of McMinnville. By his first wife our subject has six children: William H., John C., S. J., Lamyra, Henrietta and Laura. Our subject is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church South, and his wife of the Christian Church. He is a member of Tullahoma Lodge, No. 101, I. O. O. F., of which he is the only surviving charter member. He has served several times as mayor and alderman of Tullahoma. He is a Democrat.

45. | James Wright (18.Hannah3, 2.Sterling2, 1.Ephraim1) was born about 1816 in Kentucky; died about 1855 in Mississippi. Notes:
James Wright was a member of the Mt. Hermon Baptist Church in Lincoln County, Tennessee by 1840.
Middle name sometimes shown as HARRISON.
Melba Gene McLemore found a Power of Attorney from James Wright to William H. Ragsdale, proven by oath of John WILLY and John ISOM, GI Cty., TN Cty. Ct. Min. p 201.
Will Johnson shows him, apparently in error, as dying after 1870 in Illinois. This contradicts the research of both Douglas Wright and Melba Gene McLemore, who both show his death much earlier, Doug Wright shows he died in Hamilton County, Texas whereas Melba Gene shows he died in Mississippi. He is not listed with his wife and children at the time of the 1860 Rusk County, Texas census.

48. | Maybe Julia Ann Wright (18.Hannah3, 2.Sterling2, 1.Ephraim1) was born about 1834 in Tennessee; died after 1870 in Marian, Williamson County, Illinois. Notes:
Julia Molitz (jmolitz@cox.net), a member of the "Chesnut Ridge Cousins" genealogy study group, notes that "Julyan must have been a dau of Benjamin and Hannah WRIGHT for she and her husband John SWAN appear next to her brother Joel WRIGHT on the 1860 Lawrence CO. MO Census."
Mt. Hermon Baptist Church, Lincoln County, Tennessee" by Betty Via also notes that Julyan appears to be a relation, perhaps a daughter, of Benjamin and Hannah Wright as she is always listed with them. The book shows that she was rec'd by experience, August, 1851; married (Swan?) before August, 1859; granted letter, August 1859, letter was called for by Brother Wright.
Melba Gene McLemore does not agree with this conclusion, believing that Julia Ann is NOT a daughter of Benjaming Wright and Hannah McLemore.

49. | William F. McLemore (25.John3, 10.Gilliam2, 1.Ephraim1) was born on 23 Dec 1855 in Rockcastle County, Kentucky; died in Feb 1940 in Gibson County, Indiana. Notes:
Paul Williams writes that:
Gibson Co., IN Death Record Bk H Pg 64 for William F. McLemore
1) Born 23 Dec 1850 KY
2) Spouses name Amanda
3) age 89 years 1 month 18 days
4) Fathers name: John
5) Mothers name: Sarah Jane Kirby -- this is puzzle, Paul speculates the
informant had his sisters name on her mind as, Sarah had died about 7
years earlier or just didn't know
6) Date of death: not shown -- another puzzle as what the death record does
show is buried 11 Feb 1940 !!
As Williams parents were married in March, 1855, it appears he was actually born nine months later, in December, 1855 vs. five years prior to their marriage.
