1. | Anton "Anthony" Doupnik was born before 1844 in Bohemia; died on 5 Dec 1883 in Nebraska; was buried in Turkey Creek Cemetery, Saline County, Nebraska. Notes:
The exact date of Anthony's arrival to this country is not known, but it is known that he applied for his U.S. citizenship at Red Oak, Montgomery County, Iowa on December 8, 1870. The family moved to Saline County, Nebraska, and on May 4, 1871, Anthony registered an application for a homestead. His land was the s 1/2 NW 1/4, section 30, Turkey Creek Township. He "built a house of sod thereon, 12 x 14 feet in size with two windows and one door...plowed and cultivated about 40 acres of said land and...bored a well 48 feet deep, built a stable of straw and poles and planted a small grove of forest trees. (Milligan, p 261).

She came to America at age 6. Her family originally settled in Red Oak, Iowa and then moved to a farm near Crete. Her parents died of the flu shortly after her marriage, and she raised her younger brothers and sisters. After her husband's death, she managed their farm for over 20 more years, with the help of her children. She lived in a sod hut, killed the snakes first thing in the morning and had a dog that actually removed cockleburs from her skirt in the evening. (Milligan, p 211).

They farmed near Exeter for 45 years. After Anna's death, Robert moved to Geneva where he operated a repair shop. He was a very innovative person. Long before others on the farm had electricity he had rows of batteries and an electric engine in hais basement to provide electricity in his home. Also, he had one of the biggest steam threshing rigs around, a Case. He was the first have an automobile in Saline County. Jan Doupnik 3 July 1855 - 11 March 1932, of Thurston, Nebraska used to visit Robert Doupnik and family. The exact relationship is not known, perhaps they were cousins. (Milligan, p 262).

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, March 9, at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal. Pastor Tom Day will officiate. Burial will be at Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal.
Visitation will be from noon until the time of services Friday at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home.
Mrs. Howes was born Nov. 23, 1918, in Milligan, Neb., to Fred and Mary Soukup.
She was married to Albert Howes and he preceded her in death.
Survivors include three children, Sharon Kay Bush of Ballwin, Mo., Robert Stewart (Ann) of New London, Mo., Charles Howes (Vicki) of Manchester, Mo.; grandchildren, Greg Stewart, Gary Stewart (Melissa), Cindy Bovelle, Matt Howes (Jamie) Mandy Kempter (Tony), Ashley Howes; several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and special friend, Daisy Hamilton.
She is preceded in death by two sisters, Irene Lavender, Rose Jameson; and two grandchildren, Mike Bauman and Stephanie Bauman.
Mrs. Howes was a volunteer with the Head Start Program. She retired from Crown Shoe Factory as a laborer and previously worked as a housekeeper at the Holiday Inn. Mrs. Howes loved to play cards and search puzzles. She enjoyed horses and loved the color purple. Mrs. Howes was a Christian by faith.
Memorial contributions may be made to Jeanna Babyak Scholarship Fund in care of the James O'Donnell Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Greg Stewart, Gary Stewart, Matt Howes, Tony Kempter and Andy Babyak.

After graduating from Exeter High School, Renye attended business college in Lincoln, after which he worked in Alliance, Nebraska and the Lincoln Air Base. He spent two years in the Navy, and then attended the University of Nebraska. He left school early to help his father after he became ill. (Milligan, p 289).

Hastings resident, Shirley J. Hinrichs, 72, of 608 South Chicago, died Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at her home.
Services will be Tuesday, July 15, 2008; 1:00 P.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel with Rev. Harold D. Stromer officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Churchyard Cemetery, west of Glenvil, Nebraska. Livingston-Butler-Volland Funeral Home & Cremation Center is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Hinrichs was born June 14, 1936 in Geneva, Nebraska to William & Georgia (Doupnik) Soukup. She graduated from Geneva High School and married Marvin J. Hinrichs on April 1, 1956. He preceded her in death on September 13, 1989. She was a life long area resident and a housekeeper at the nurse's dorm and later at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Hinrichs was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marvin; son, Randy on April 12, 2001; sister, Betty and a brother, William Soukup Jr.

Rex J. Nun, 75, of Lincoln, passed away at home September 6, 2018. He was born May 27, 1943, in Geneva, Nebraska, to John and Blanche (Doupnik) Nun.
Rex attended elementary school in a one-room country schoolhouse before attending Geneva High School where he graduated in 1960. Following graduation, Rex attended Nebraska Vocational Technical School in Milford, Nebraska, where he earned an Associates Degree in Building Construction Technology in 1962.
Rex married his high school sweetheart, Nancy, on June 1, 1963, and the couple made their home in Lincoln where they have resided ever since.
A lifelong love of automobiles led Rex to begin driving race cars in 1973 at Midwest Speedway in Lincoln. In a racing career that spanned 25 years, the "Flying Nun" earned dozens of victories and many fans throughout the Midwest.
Rex is survived by his wife Nancy Nun (Villers) of Lincoln; sons Jeffrey (wife Aileen) Nun of Lincoln; James Nun of Lincoln; Jared (wife Caroline) Nun of Akron, Ohio; daughter Jacqueline Nun of Lincoln; grandchildren Travis Nun, Terra Nun, Race Nun and Zaccary Nun; brothers Richard (wife Donna) Nun of Phoenix, Arizona, and Rodney (wife Marilyn) Nun of Atlanta, Georgia.
He is preceded in death by his parents and mother-in-law Marguerite Burklund.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 12, 2018, at Cathedral of the Risen Christ Catholic Church, 3500 Sheridan Blvd. in Lincoln, with Monsignor Joseph Nemec celebrating the Mass. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Geneva.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 12 noon to 7 p.m., with family receiving friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Butherus Maser & Love funeral home, 4040 A St., Lincoln 68510.
Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation.
