He was described as of Medium Heighth, Slender, with blue eyes and dark hair. On his registration for the World War II draft, he was still farming in Newton County, His place of birth was shown as Lees Mill versus Bon Wier. When asked for a name and address of a person who would always know his address, his answer was W. A. Newton.
His Texas Death Certificate lists him as a retired farmer, and a Widower. He had not served in the U.S. Armed Forces. At the time of his death, he lived at 3141 Proctor Street, Port Arthur, Texas. Informant on the death certificate was Carroll Powell, his oldest half brother.

Alex W. "Bud" Powell, 70, passed away at his home in Canyon Lake on March 27, 2010. He retired after 30 years of teaching and also retired after serving 30 years in the U.S. Navy Reserve as Chief Petty Officer. He was born on Dec. 16, 1939 to Carrol and Luetta Orena Weber Powell in Nederland, Texas.
Bud is survived by his wife of 51 years, Janice Cherry Powell. He is also survived by two daughters, Valerie Jerry and husband B. R. of Humble, and LeAnne Powell of Canyon Lake and two sons, Alex W. Powell II and wife Cara of Canyon Lake, and Brian Powell and wife Elvia of Humble.
He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, a sister, Carolyn Lockhart of Port Neches and special friend, Tonya Nevil.
Visitation will start at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, April 2, at First Baptist Church in Canyon Lake. The funeral service will follow visitation at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Fischer Cemetery in Fischer.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to First Baptist Church-Canyon Lake Disaster Relief, Highland Lakes Encampment, or Hope Hospice. Arrangements under the care of Crofts Funeral Home, 911 Mesquite St., Blanco, Texas, 78606, 830-833-4523.

Becky Poulos
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. ? Becky L. Poulos, 45, died Jan. 7, 2001, at Centennial Hospice Cottage of pancreatic cancer. Services were Thursday, Jan. 11, at First Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. Burial will be at a later date in Wyoming. Mrs. Poulos was born Aug. 16, 1955, at Poplar, Mont., to Shirley (Husman) and Frank Powell. She graduated from Sheridan High School in 1973. She married Albert Poulos October 1973 in Sheridan. She graduated from National College in May 1991, where she earned her associate's degree in travel. She was an administrative assistant to the pastors and computer administrator at First Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. Her hobbies included sewing, and counted cross stitch pictures, and she had just begun quilting. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Angela; three sons, Jeffrey, Christopher and Albert Jr., all of Sioux Falls; her mother, Shirley Powell, of Sheridan; a sister, Brenda Rendo'n, Solvang , Calif.; two grandchildren; and one nephew.
