Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at E. E. Stringer Funeral Home in Kirbyville with burial in Fairmount Cemetery in Yellowpine.

A native of Fairmount, he lived in the Kirbyville-Buna area 34 years and was a retired oil travel operator for Pure Oil Co., now Unocal.

Thomas S. Easley, age 92, of Hemphill passed away Thursday, January 29, 2004 in Hemphill.

Easley was born May 15, 1911 in Sabine County as the son of the late Hattie Virginia (BECKOM) and Artie O. EASLEY. He was a lifelong resident of Sabine County and was a carpenter.

Survivors include: wife, Callie Mae EASLEY of Hemphill; sons Arvin EASLEY, Don EASLEY, and Jimmy EASLEY, all of Hemphill; daughters, Johnnie Faye GODSEY of San Augustine, Jimmie HIPPLER and Martha GRIFFIN, both of Hemphill, and Dianne SHORT of Pineland; 20 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; and nine great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday, January 31, 2004 at Strickland Chapel Church of God on FM 2024 with Bro. Vance PURTELL and Bro. Joe EBARB officiating. Interment followed at LOTT Cemetery. Starr Funeral Home Inc., Hemphill, directors.

Mary Pauline Butler Kelley, 90, of Hemphill died at noon, Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2004 at Hemphill Care Center. Born May 28, 1914, as a daughter of the late Mattie (BECKCOM) and Coleman EASLEY, Mrs. Kelley was a native and lifelong resident of Sabine County. She was a member of First Baptist Church and worked as a custodian for Hemphill Independent School District. Survivors: a son, James Bobby BUTLER of Hemphill, daughters, Linda KELLEY of Hemphill, Mary Virginia BUTLER of Brookeland, and Terry Stewart GANDY of Channelview; a step-son, Charlie KELLEY of Bonham; step-daughters, Dovie BROWN and Louise WRIGHT, both of Hemphill, and Myrtle HOGUE of Pineland; sisters, Nina LINDSEY of Pineland and Faye HOUSE of Hemphill; 22 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great granchildren. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the chapel of Starr Funeral Home Inc. in Hemphill with Bro. Floyd Wright and Bro. Vance Purtell officiating. Neva Busick, 83, died early Friday, March 19, 2004, at Sabine County Hospital in Hemphill. Mrs. Busick was born Dec. 26 (sic), 1920, in Hemphill as a daughter of Coleman and Mattie (Beckom) Easley. She was a member of the Fredonia Hill Baptist Church and had lived in Nacogdoches for several years. Survivors: a son, Clay Allan Busick of Nacogdoches; sisters Faye HOUSE and Pauline KELLY, both of Hemphill, and Nina LINDSEY of Pineland, and one grandson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clay Busick. Funeral services were held at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Carson, Monk & Metcalf Funeral Directors Sunset Chapel in Nacogdoches with Dr. Johnny Dammon of Fredonia Hill Baptist Church officiating. Interment followed at Sunset Memorial Park in Nacogdoches.

Nina Easley Lindsey

Funeral services for Nina Easley Lindsey, 85, of Pineland were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 23, 2006 at First Baptist Church in Pineland. Burial followed at Springhill Cemetery. Bro. Gordon KNIGHT and Bro. Vance PURTELL officiated. She died July 21 at Hemphill Care Center in Hemphill.

Nina Easley Lindsey was born in Hemphill on December 12 (sic), 1920 to Coleman Easley and Mattie BECOM. She was a homemaker and a babysitter and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Pineland.

She is survived by her sons, Coleman Lindsey and wife, Kathy and Claude Lindsey and wife Martha, all of San Augustine; daughter, Carolyn BENNETT and husband, Cotton of Japser; sister Faye HOUSE of Hemphill; 15 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

C.W. "Weldon" Easley, 80, of Jasper died Friday, Oct. 25, 2002, at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont. Easley was a native of Sabine County and had lived in Jasper several years. He was a U.S. Army Air Force Veteran of World War II and a longtime member of First Baptist Church. Survivors: wife of 51 year, Iris Easley of Jasper; son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Karen Easley of Silsbee; a step-son, Ron Miller of Houston; sisters, Pauline Butler and Faye House both of Hemphill, Neva Busick of Pineland; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Fay Carmon House, 86, died Friday, Aug. 5, 2011, in the Twin Lakes Care Center in San Augustine after an illiness.

She was born in Hemphill to Coleman and Mattie Beckcom Easley and had lived in Sabine County all of her life. Mrs. House was a homemaker and a member of the Bethel Chapel Baptist Church in Pineland.

She is survived by her daughter June Fuller of Rosevine; her son Marcus Paul Warner and his wife Ann of Columbus; her daughter-in-law Janet Warner of San Augustine; and a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mrs. House was preceded in death by her sons, Tommy and Robert Warner.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday, Aug. 7, in the Starr Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in the Magnolia Springs Cemetery near Bronson.

Voy McNaughten

Funeral services for Voy Price McNaughten, 76, of Hemphill were held at 10 a.m. Friday at the chapel of Starr Funeral Home Inc. in Hemphill with Bro. Charles R. Stephens officiating. Interment followed at Fairmount Cemetery in Fairmount.

He died 4:30 pm. Tuesday, Nov. 8, 1994, at Woodland Heights Medical Center in Lufkin.

Born June 13, 1918, in Milam as a son of the late Price and Inez (Thompson) McNaughten, he had formerly lived in Lufkin before returning to Sabine County eight years ago. He retired in 1984 as an electrician for Brown 7 Root Construction. McNaughten was a member of Rosevine United Pentecostal Church and a U.S. Army veteran.

Survivors: wife, Hazel (Bragg) McNaughen of Hemphill; daughters, Cheryl Valka of Buna, and Paula Tucker and Renne McNaughten, both of Lufkin; stepdaughters, Vickie Brucia of Hemphill and Lavina Gibson of Rosevine; a brother, Thomas Jett of Albuquerque, New Mexico; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife, Jean Easley of Hemphill; daughters, Sheeta Gaspard and husband, David of Hemphill, Sheela Bennet and husband, Thomas of Hemphill, and Misty Haynes of Hemphill; brothers, Don Easley and wife Sandra of Hemphill, and James Easley and wife, Natasha of Houston; sisters, Johnnie Godsey of San Augustine, Jimmie Hipler and husband, Clinton Earl of Pineland, Martha Griffin and husband, Jerry of Hemphill, and Dianne Short of Pineland; and seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Callie Mae Easley; daughter, Sheena Easley; grandchildren, Ron Procell, Rustie Procell, and Skyler Procell; and his granddaughter in law, Chelsie Procell.

Jeanette Easley Ebarb

Jeanette Easley Ebarb, 64, died in the Green Acres Nursing Home in Center early Sunday, January 1, 2012 after an illness.

She was born in Hemphill to V.V. and Mabel Walker Easley. She had lived in Hemphill all her life helping her husband Joe and also working as a nurse's aid in home health.

She is survived by her husband, Joe Ebarb of Hemphill; daughter Sylvia Beckcom and her husband Greg of Hemphill; sisters, Juanita Sutton of Hemphill and Rosalyn Easley of Lufkin. She is also survived by five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Jeanette was preceded in death by her son Billy Joe Ebarb and two brothers, Ronald and Wayne Easley.

Services were held Monday, Jan. 2, in the Starr Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in the Springhill Cemetery near Hemphill.

Elna Faye Kincel, 78, of Hemphill, Texas passed away Monday, June 12, 2023 at Woodland Heights Hospital in Lufkin, Texas.

Elna Faye was born August 20, 1944 in Buna, Texas to Charlie Melvin Latham and Mona Leafy Easley Latham. She and her husband, Noah, were married August 8, 1958 and together raised their seven children. She was a lifelong resident of Sabine County and a loving wife and mother.

She liked to go shopping and fishing and was a very good cook. She enjoyed her flowers in her yard and you could always count on her having coffee ready when you stopped by for a visit. She welcomed everyone into her home and she especially loved having her children and grandchildren with her.

She is survived by her sons, Melvin Kincel and wife, Eloise, of Hemphill, Noah Lee Kincel of Woodville, Charles Kincel of Hemphill and William Kincel and wife, Amber, of Hemphill; daughters, Shirley Smith and husband, Glenn, of Pineland and Melissa Huffman and husband, Steve, of Jasper; brother, Ronnie Latham and wife, Judy, of Lufkin; sisters, Margie Williams of Broaddus, Dorothy Bayless and husband, Gary, of Pineland, and Christine Jacks and Delwin Burgess of Hudson; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Noah Ashley Kincel; daughter, Diana Jones; brothers, Gerald Latham and Donald Latham; and sisters, Wilma Jean Dickerson, Barbara Bragg and Marcille Latham.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 14, 2023at Starr Funeral Home, 510 Starr Street, Hemphill, Texas.

Donald was born June 17, 1947 in Hemphill, Texas to Charley and Mona Easley Latham. He was a United States Army Veteran having served in Vietnam. Later he worked as a truck driver for Jimmy Huffman Logging. He and his wife, Dorothy Trotter Latham married November 26, 1968 in Milton, Louisiana and went on to have four children. Donald holds the Sam Rayburn lake record for the biggest Opelousas catfish ever caught on that lake.

Donald is survived by his wife of 49 years, Dorothy Latham; his sons, Donny Latham and wife, Dion, of Pineland, Texas and J.R. Latham and wife, Candace, of San Augustine, Texas; his daughters, Debbie Jacks and husband, Lee, of Pineland, Texas and Betty Austin and husband, Keith, of Brookeland, Texas; brother, Ronnie Latham and wife, Judy, of Lufkin, Texas; sisters, Elna Faye Kincel of Hemphill, Texas, Dorothy Bayless and husband, Gary, of Pineland, Texas, Christine Jacks of Lufkin, Texas, and Margie Gayle Williams of Broaddus, Texas; 14 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charley and Mona Latham; brother, Gerald Latham, and sisters, Willma Jean Dickerson, Barbara Ann Bragg, and Marcille Latham.

James Bobby Butler, 70, died Sunday, March 20, 2011 at the Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital. He was born in Hemphill and had lived most of his life here.

Butler was a welder and a supervisor in construction of commercial buildings and structures.

He is survived by sons, James Bobby Butler, Jr. of Cneter and Marlin Butler and wife Brittany of Nacogdoches; daughters, Brandi Meck of Gary; granchildren, Wendy, Crystal, Madi, Dakoda and Erin; and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters, Virginia Butler of Brookeland, Terry Gandy of Channelview, Linda Kelley, Myrtle Hogue, and Louise Wright, all of Hemphill.

He was preceded in death by his father, Marlin Butler; and mother, Pauline Easley Kelley.

Thomas Burl Warner, Jr., 55, of San Augustine died Saturday, July 24, 2004, at his residence. Warner was born Aug. 19, 1948 in Jasper and was a longtime resident of the San Augustine area. Sheena was born September 14, 1964 in Jasper, Texas to Arvin and Jean Collins Easley. She worked in the nursing field as a C.N.A. She spent her life in Sabine County and Bastrop County.

Sheena attended Hemphill ISD and was a member of the graduating class of 1983. She enjoyed go fishing and camping. She also had a great interest in genealogy, delving into the past and researching her family tree. She loved to cook and feed everybody, especially the kids that lovingly called her "Nantie".

She is survived by her parents, Arvin and Jean Easley of Hemphill, Texas; son, Karl Dolphus and wife, Taresha, of Austin, Texas; daughter, LaTosha Taylor and husband, Wayne, of Dallas, Texas; sisters, Sheela Bennett and husband, Tony, Sheeta Easley Gaspard and David Gaspard, and Misty Haynes, all of Hemphill; seven grandchildren, one great grandson, three nieces, two nephews, and eight great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Thomas and Callie Mae Easley; her maternal grandparents, Joseph Aaron Collins and Ora Enta (Phillips) Collins; and two nephews, Ronald Sevado Procell, II (Ron) and Rustie Stephen Procell.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 21, 2018 at Starr Funeral Home Chapel, 510 Starr St., Hemphill, Texas.

Billy Joe Ebarb, Sr., 41, of Hemphill, died in his home Saturday morning, Dec. 19, 2009. He was born on Oct. 31, 1968, in San Augustinee. He worked as a boiler maker int he petroleum industry and was a life long resident of Hemphill.

Ebarb is survived by his parents, Joseph and Jeanette Ebarb of Hemphill; sons, Cody Blaine Ebarb and Billy Joe "BJ" Ebarb, Jr. both of Hemphill; daughter, Alexis Neff of Austin; sister, Sylvia Beckcom of Hemphill, and grandsons, Blake and Rody Ebarb of Hemphill.

Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 21 at Sptringhill Cemetery near Hemphill.

Skyler is survived by his father, Ronald Procell and Cheryl Maxey, of Bronson, Texas; mother, Sheeta Easley Gaspard and husband, David, of Hemphill, Texas; grandparents, Joe and Lucille Procell of Hemphill and Arvin and Jean Easley of Hemphill; daughters, Ryleign Procell of Hemphill, Destynn Procell of Buna, Texas, Rancyn Procell of Hemphill, and Brixleigh Chaney of Hemphill; and his sister, Hillery Bennett and husband,Colter, of Kalispell, Montana.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Ronald Sevado Procell, II and Rusty Steven Procell; and his aunt, Sheena Easley.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Thursday, January 31, 2019 at Starr Funeral Home, 510 Starr St., Hemphill, Texas.

Funeral services for Skyler and Chelsea will begin at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 1, 2019 at Starr Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Floyd Wright officiating.

Burial will follow services in Hemphill Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers are Artie Easley, Cody Lout, Bo Procell, Christopher Johnson, Cade Procell, and Matt Lout.

Car Accident claims life of John Shannon "Shan" Cox

A one car accident claimed the life of a Sabine County man Sunday. According to a spokesman from the Department of Public Safety, Robert Hamilton, 21, Justin Conn, 21 and John Shannon Cox, 21 all of Milam, were traveling southbound on FM 1592 at 3:40 a.m. when the wreck occurred. The report indicates Hamilton was driving a 2013 Chevorlet Silverado pick-up truck at an unsafe speed, when he drove off the right side of the roadway. The report says he over-corrected turning to the right and skidded into a pipe fence post causing damage and turning the vehicle 180 degrees. The vehicle then flipped twice and came to rest in a pasture. John Shannon Cox was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. Robert Hamilton was treated and released from Sabine County Hospital. Justin Conn was not injured. No one was wearing a seat-belt. Sabine County Sheriff's Office stated no arrest were made in connection to the accident at this time and no citation was issued at the time of the accident. The accident was investigated by Department of Public Safety Trooper Michael Thomasan.

John Shannon Cox, Jr, died in Rosevine Texas, July 28, 2013. He was born to John Shannon Cox, Sr and Maria Sutton Cox on July 19, 1992, in Nacogdoches. Shannon was a lifetime resident of the Sabine County area. He worked as a boilermaker with Altairstrickland and Wyatt Construction.
Shannon was survived by his father Shannon Cox, Sr, of Milam; his mother Maria Cox of Hemphill; grandparents, John Sutton of Hemphill, Juanita Sutton of Hemphill, Sybil Hood of Grapeland and Linda Cox of Milam; and one sister, Kristen Marie Cox of Hemphill. He was preceded in death by his grandfather Chester D. Cox.

Visitation will be from 5:00 pm. until 9:00 pm, Tuesday evening, July 30, 2013, in the Starr Funeral Home, 510 Starr St., Hemphill, Texas. Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, July 31, 2013, at the Hemphill High School Gym under the direction of Starr Funeral Home, with burial to follow in King Cemetery in Milam.
