Avor Harper
Funeral services for Mrs. Avor Harper, 97, of Hemphill were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 12, 1994, at the chapel of Starr Funeral Home Inc. in Hemphill with Bro. W. Clarence Howell officiating. Interment followed at Harper's Chapel Cemetery in Sabine County.
She died at 10:40 p.m. Sunday, July 10, 1994, at Medical Center in Nacogdoches.
Born Feb. 6, 1897, in Sabine County, Mrs. Harper was a lifelong resident of the area. She was a member of the Baptist church and a retired homemaker.
Survivors: a daughter, Jessie Lee "Sookie" Bird of Hemphill; three sons, Wendell Harper, Atrell Harper, and Glenn Harper, all of Hemphill; a sister-in-law, May McFarland of Monroe, Louisiana; ten grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Wendell Holmes Harper
Graveside service for Wendell Holmes Harper, 86, of Hemphill, was held at 2 p.m. August 10, 2008 at Harpers Chapel Cemetery. Rev. Floyd Wright officiated. He died August 7, 2008 at his residence in Hemphill.
Wendell Holmes Harper was born in Sabinetown on July 25, 1922. He was a master electrician and served in the Merchant Marinces during WW II. He was a former resident of Houston.
He is survived by his son, Rory Harper of College Station; daughter, Cheryl COLLUM of Bellville; brother, Glen HARPER of Hemphill and sister, Sookie BYRD of Shreveport, LA; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Starr Funeral Home in Hemphill was in charge of arrangements.

Jessie "Sookie" Lee Harper Bird, 90, of Hemphill, Texas passed away Monday, June 29, 2020 in Hillside Nursing Home and Rehab.
Jessie was born August 30, 1929 in Sabine County, Texas to Albert Lewis Harper and Avor McFarland Harper. She worked as a secretary for the State Department of Highways and Public Transportation for many years. She was a member of Harper's Chapel Methodist Church.
Jessie is survived by her son, Larry Jordan and wife, Janet, of Kerrville, Texas; daughter, Deborah Debes of Shreveport, Louisiana; brother, Glenn Harper and wife, Betty, of Hemphill; grandchildren, Heather Jordan, Joshua Jordan, Danyele Sanantonio, and Michael Debes; and eight great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, E.C. Bird; and brothers, Lanis Harper, Wendell Harper, and Atrell Harper.
Cremation arrangements were handled by Starr Funeral Home and she will be buried in Harper's Chapel Cemetery, Hemphill, Texas.
