    Mr. Kenneth Wayne "Ken" Birdwell of San Augustine passed away Friday, April 5, 2024, at a Lufkin hospital at the age of 64 years, 2 months, 3 days.

    Kenneth was born February 2, 1960, in San Augustine to parents Pauline (Oliver) and Kennon Birdwell and had been a lifelong area resident. He was a registered nurse and had a distinguished and respected career in health care, not only in East Texas but throughout the state. Kenneth had worked as a consultant with the State Board of Nursing, as well as working to lead the teams of several nursing homes and home health care agencies as director of nursing. Mr. Birdwell had also worked in corporate management bringing cutting edge expertise for multiple locations. He had a great love and affection for his family.

    His survivors include his wife, Debora Hogue Birdwell; a son, Kevin Birdwell and his partner Stephanie of Arvada, Colorado; daughter, Kellie Wiggins and husband Matthew of Anacoco, Louisiana; grandchildren, Brandon Tarver of Pineland, and Genna Birdwell and Toby Birdwell, both of Arvada; son-in-law, Burl Tarver of Pineland; brothers, Marlon "Bubba" Birdwell of Pineland, Michael Birdwell of Hemphill, and Doyle Birdwell of San Augustine; mother-in-law, Myrtle Hogue of Pineland; a brother-in-law, David Hogue of Pineland; and a number of aunts, uncles, and cousins.

    He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kimberly Tarver; parents, Kennon and Pauline Birdwell; and father-in-law, L.J. Hogue.

    Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at Wyman Roberts Funeral Home, located at 316 W. Columbia Street in San Augustine.

    Funeral services are set for 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 11, 2024, at Wyman Roberts Memorial Chapel with Bro. Gordon Simmons and Bro. Michael Dickerson officiating. Committal service and interment will follow at the Chinquapin Cemetery in San Augustine County.

    Pallbearers: Matthew Wiggins, Brandon Tarver, Burl Tarver, Chris Birdwell, Luke Birdwell, and Chuck Loggins.

    Graduate

    Kevin Birdwell, son of Kenneth and Debbie Birdwell of San Augustine, graduated May 10 from the University of North Texas in Denton. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and a minor in Biology. Kevin will begin teaching for the Denton Independent School district this fall.

    New Arrival

    Kenneth and Debbie Birdwell of San Augustine are very pleased to announce the birth of their first granddaughter, Genevieve Grace Birdwell. Genna's parents are Kevin and Katie Birdwell of Fort Worth. Genna was born May 9, 2012. She weighed in at 4 pounds, 11 ounces and measured 17 1/4 inches long. Maternal grandparents are Steve and Cindy Speiser of Allen. Paternal grandparents are Kenneth and Debbie Birdwell of San Augustine. Great grandparents are Myrtle Hogue of Sabine County and the late L. J. Hogue, Pauline Birdwell of San Augustine and the late Kennon Birdwell, and Phylis Spenser of Edmond, OK. Local Aunts are Kellie Birdwell and Kimberly Birdwell Tarver.

    Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 6, 2019, in the Attoyac Missionary Baptist Church, with Bro. Tim Swanson and Bro. Michael Dickerson officiating. Interment will be in the Attoyac Cemetery adjacent to the Church.


    Visitation will be held on Saturday evening, October 5, 2019, from the hours of 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Wyman Roberts Memorial Chapel, 316 West Columbia Street, San Augustine, Texas.


    Kim was born November 20, 1985, to Debbie (Hogue) Birdwell and Kenneth Birdwell in Nacogdoches, Texas. She was a graduate of West Sabine High School in Pineland, Texas. Further extending her education through Panola College obtaining her L.V.N. license, she was presently working as a charge nurse at Twin Lake Care Center in San Augustine where she so lovingly cared for her patients. She was considered one of the best all-around nurses and was a dear friend to all who knew her, she will be dearly missed.


    Kim was a great daughter to her beloved parents, granddaughter, a loving Momma to her beloved son Brandon, called "Lucille" to her beloved husband, Burl, a dear sister to Kevin and Kellie, a loving aunt to Genna and Toby, a wonderful niece, cousin, and a beloved cherished friend. One of her most pride and joy was her son, Brandon Keith, who was born to her and Burl Gene on May 11, 2004. Kim was of the Pentecostal faith, and dearly loved her Lord God and Saviour.


    Those who are left to cherish her memory include her beloved husband, Burl Tarver of San Augustine, her cherished son, Brandon Tarver of San Augustine; her loving parents, Kenneth and Debbie Birdwell of San Augustine; her loving sister, Kellie Wiggins and her husband, Matthew of Deridder, Louisiana; her loving brother, Kevin Birdwell and his wife, Katie of Centennial, Colorado; her loving nephew and niece, Toby and Genna Birdwell of Centennial, Colorado; a loving mother-in-law, Susan Everett of San Augustine; beloved grandmother, Myrtle Hogue of San Augustine/Hemphill; her beloved uncles, Marlon (Bubba) Birdwell of Pineland; Michael Birdwell of Hemphill; Doyle Birdwell of San Augustine, and David Hogue of San Augustine/Hemphill; her beloved grandfather-in-law, Rufus Everett of San Augustine.


    She was preceded in death by her beloved grandparents, Kennon, and Pauline (Oliver) Birdwell, and L.J. Hogue; and her grandmother-in-law, Charlotte Everett.
