Generation: 1
1. | Elizabeth Johnston was born on 15 Feb 1802 in South Carolina; died on 31 Jul 1881 in Clarke County, Mississippi; was buried in McLemore Cemetery, Middleton, Clarke County, Mississippi. Notes:
Some researchers show her as the daughter of Caleb Hill and Mary Flynt, and the sister of Nancy Perry Hill, who married Amos's brother, Richard McLemore. Others show her as Elizabeth Hill Johnson or Johnston, with their marriage taking place in Giles County, Tennessee. The Rev. William McLemore shows that according to correspondence and DAR records submitted to him by Joyce Sentell of Mobile, Alabama in 1996, her maiden name was Johnson. In May, 2008, Rev. Bill emailed that "An e-mail from a Ron Henson, 12 Feb 1998 says her surname was Johnston. She was born 15 Feb 1802 and died 31 July 1881. Their children were Albert Gallatin 1825, Richard, Caleb, John b. 1831, Catherine b. 1832, Nancy b. 1838, Elvira and Bettie. Harry McLemore of Jackson, MS, wrote me, "Amos lived in Clarke Co., in 1850. He later moved to Lauderdale Co. near Meridian and one time he lived in Copiah County."
Elizabeth married Amos McLemore, Jr. about 1820. Amos (son of Amos McLemore and Equilla ???) was born on 18 Sep 1796 in South Carolina; died on 12 Sep 1872 in Clarke County, Mississippi; was buried in McLemore Cemetery, Middleton, Clarke County, Mississippi. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

4. | Albert Gallatin McLemore (1.Elizabeth1) was born on 25 Sep 1824 in Mississippi; died on 7 Mar 1874 in Clarke County, Mississippi; was buried in McLemore Cemetery, Middleton, Clarke County, Mississippi. Notes:
Census records show his place of birth as Mississippi, although Rev. William McLemore reports he was likely born in South Carolina.
Rev. William McLemore, Mark Freeman, April Makerney, and Carolyn Switzer all show that he married Mary Anne BRUNSON after 1843. She was said to be born 17 Jan 1830 in either SC or TN. Some internet trees instead show his wife as Mary Ann Johnson.
In addition to the children enumerated with the family in 1850 and 1860--based on information from Harry Kimbrell McLemore to Rev. McLemore--he is said to be the father of Joseph Leonard (b. 28 Dec 1846) and Elizabeth (b. 10 Nov 1848). Mary Lynn Santa also shows a son Amos Morgan McLemore, born Nov. 1860, and daughters Martha b. 1865 and Mary Lou b. 1874.

8. | Catherine C. McLemore (1.Elizabeth1) was born in Feb 1832 in Mississippi; died after 1910 in Oklahoma. Notes:
Not shown by Mark Freeman as a daughter of Amos and Elizabeth McLemore, but she is listed in their home at the time of the 1850 census, as well as being listed as a daughter by April Makerney. April further shows that she married Ezekial W. ASHLEY, born in Mobile, Alabama. Joyce Sentell confirms that she married a Mr. Ashley. He was said to have died in the Civil War, however, Confederate Pension records show him dying in 1888.
In 1880 she and Ezekiel were living with their children in Anderson County, Texas. In 1900, she was living with son George and his family, still in Anderson County.
In 1910, a Catherine Ashley , age 91 and born in Mississippi, was living in Caney, Atoka, Oklahoma with a John and Lulla Ashley. This MIGHT BE Catherine with her son John Ashley. However each of them are shown on that 1910 census as more than 10 years older than they are shown in most other records. At 91, Catherine would have been born in 1819, versus 1832. John Ashley was shown as being born in 1849, also in Mississippi, versus 1858.
Catherine married Ezekiel W. Ashley about 1852-1853 in Clarke County, Mississippi. Ezekiel was born between 1816 and 1821 in Alabama; died on 14 Oct 1888 in Anderson County, Texas. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

10. | George Hiram McLemore (1.Elizabeth1) was born about 1842 in Mississippi; and died. Notes:
April Makerney's notes show that George married Louisa MOORE, and that both died in the mid 1870's. This appears to be correct as four of their five children were enumerated with I.B. and Jane MOORE as of the 1880 Clarke County, Mississippi census.

22. | Louisa "Lulu" Carter (2.Sarah2, 1.Elizabeth1) was born about 1860 in Clarke County, Mississippi; and died. Notes:
It is being ASSUMED that the one year old Louisa, found on the 1860 Clarke County, Mississippi census is the same person as the 9 year old Lou Ellen found on the 1870 Freestone County, Texas census, and listed as 19 year old Lulu in Lampasas County, Texas in 1880. It is instead possible that Louisa died at a young age, and had a younger sister also named "Lou."

46. | Mary Louisia Elliott (6.Anna2, 1.Elizabeth1) was born about 1846 in Clarke County, Mississippi; and died. Notes:
Middle name also shown as Lavicia.
Pat Welch (patwelch63@hotmail.com) thinks that it is possible Lavina/Lavisa Elliott married William Collins, and can be found with her husband and children in the census enumerations she transcribed below.
Based on the names, naming patterns, and geographic locations, this seems likely. However, the main stumbling block to this theory is that if this is the same Lavisa Elliott, then as of the 1850 Clarke County, Mississippi census, Lavina/Lavisa is enumerated in two households, both as a four year old living with her parents, and as a 19 year old newlywed listed with William Collins, both listings in Clarke County. Perhaps there were errors on either or both census listings, or the Lavisa Elliott that married William Collins was an older sibling or cousin of this Lavina Elliott.
Other researchers instead show she married Stephen Thomas Gilbert, and that they had a large family. Not verified.

55. | John A. Ashley (8.Catherine2, 1.Elizabeth1) was born about 1858 in Clarke County, Mississippi; and died. Notes:
Shown on the IGI as born 17 Jan 1858 and died 12 Feb 1938 in Oklahoma City. Shown to have married twice, to Josephine CONCORD and Lula Jane MILLER, and as the father of seven.
In 1910, a John A Ashley (age 61, born ca 1849, Mississippi) and wife Lulla (age 23, born ca 1887) can be found in Caney, Atoka, Oklahoma with seven children. It was shown they had been married 7 years, and that she was the mother of two children, both living.
It would therefore appear that Ollie-17, Willie-15, Rosa-13, Minnie-11 and Maggie-8, were born to John's first wife, Robert-7 and Fred-4 both born to Lula.
John's mother, a 91 year old widow, Catherine Ashley was listed in their home as well. She was born in Mississippi as well.
Other other facts fit this John A. Ashley as being a son of Catherine C. McLemore, but the ages are markedly different.
Info can be found at FindAGrave on this John A. Ashley, linked to Josephine Concord. But again, due to the significant age gap, this should be carefully verified.
John Albert Ashley, Choctaw, early day state farmer who fought in the Civil War as a Confederate, will be buried in the Harrah Cemetery Monday afternoon following 2 p.m. services in the Choctaw Baptist Church.
Ashley, who died Saturday night in University hospital after an illness of several months, joined the Confederate ranks in Mississippi early in 1864 and fought until the end of the war. He was not wounded.
Ashley moved into the southern part of Oklahoma shortly before the turn of the century, and later moved to Choctaw. He came to the state from Texas.

71. | Isaac Matthew "Ivy" McLemore (10.George2, 1.Elizabeth1) was born about 1872 in Mississippi. Notes:
April Makerney shows that he and Affie were the parents of one son, Isaac Judson McLemore, born 13 May 1894 in Tupelo, Mississippi.
Steve Wayne McLemore emailed in December, 2009 that "Issac (Ivy) M. McLemore" was also the father of William A. McLemore, from whom Steve descended. The extended family, all descendants of George Hiram McLemore, used to have a reunion every Father's day in Ft. Towsen, OK."
The 1900 and 1910 census shows that Isaac and Affie actually had at least 10 children, nine of them still living in 1910.
It is POSSIBLE that he was a boarder in the home of Cynthia Duval of Dublin, Erath, Texas in 1920. A lodger, simply listed as McLemore, age 49, Married, and born in Mississippi was in her home at the time. His occupation was that of carpenter, house. Earlier census records indicated he was born ca 1872 in Mississippi, so this is a possible fit.
His brother's 1940 obituary referred to him as being "...of Santa Rosa, Texas." His great-grandson, Steve McLemore, states that Ivy died in Paris, Texas in 1945.

73. | Charles Riley "Charlie" McLemore (10.George2, 1.Elizabeth1) was born on 5 Mar 1874 in Mississippi; died on 17 Apr 1961. Notes:
At the time of the 1900 census, a Charles R. McLemore, born Mar 1874 in Mississippi and listed as single, was a Servant in the home of Thomas and Margaret Honeycutt of Extra Township, Ashley County, Arkansas. This appears to be Charles Riley McLemore.
At the time of the 1910 census, he was living with his brother Albert in Seminole County, OK and listed as widowed. It therefore appears he married sometime between 1900 and 1910, and was widowed within that period as well.
The following message board post indicates that he may have been the widower of Bessie Belle Williams:
Isaac Matthew McLemore married Affie/Affy Williams Dec. 19, 1889 in Clarke Co., MS. Isaac's brother, Charles Riley McLemore married Bessie Belle Williams, sister of Affie. Does anyone have any information at all on the family of Affie and Bessie Bell Williams?
Posted by Rhondac@austin.rr.com
In 1920 he was remarried, and listed with his wife and daughter in Choctaw County, Oklahoma, and by 1930 the family had moved to Fisher County, Texas.
His brother's 1940 obituary referred to him as being "...of Hugo," so it appears he returned from Texas to Oklahoma.
The following cemetery listing can be found at Fort Towson in Hugo:

112. | Owen McLemore (68.Albert3, 10.George2, 1.Elizabeth1) was born in Jan 1896 in Alabama; died on 3 Oct 1906. Notes:
April Makerney initially theorized that Ethel McLemore, age 19, and shows as a daughter-in-law of Albert George McLemore at the time of the 1920 census was the widow of Owen. However, she later concluded that Ethel was actually Amos McLemore's widow.
|
113. | Amos McLemore (68.Albert3, 10.George2, 1.Elizabeth1) was born in Jan 1897 in Alabama; died in Nov 1923 in Tulsa, Tulsa County, Oklahoma. Notes:
He was not listed as among the survivors of his father, Albert George McLemore, who died in 1940.
April Makerney writes that his widow, Ethel (born ca 1901 in OK), was living in a Tulsa area boarding house and working as a stenographer as of the 1930 census. April also believed they were without issue. However, the Ledesma Family tree shows that Amos McLemore and Ethel Crowder were the parents of three sons, Graden Haskell McLemore (1917-1917), Coy Hershel McLemore (1919-1928) and Aubrey Alvin McLemore, born 1921.
