2. | Amos McLemore (1.William1) was born on 3 Dec 1829 in Chickasaw County, Mississippi; died on 2 Sep 1903 in Lauderdale County, Mississippi; was buried in Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Meridian, Lauderdale County, Mississippi. Notes:
Rev. William P. McLemore, in a section on his website devoted to Notable McLemore's (Website: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Meadows/3476/mclem1.htm), has the following biography:
Amos McLemore was a planter of Lauderdale County, Mississippi, born in Chickasaw County, December 3, 1829. His parents, William and Martha (Joiners) McLemore, were born in North Carolina and Tennessee in 1800, respectively, moved to Covington County when he was but a child, and in 1838 they moved to Lauderdale County and settled near where Meridian is now situated. Amos was married in 1855 to Miss Mary Jane McShan, of Lauderdale County, by whom he had nine children: William, Andrew, Virginia, Fannie, Acquila, Laura, Kirkland, and a son who lived only a month. At the opening of the Civil War, Mr. McLemore enlisted in the Confederate Army and upon the return of peace, he turned his attention to planting, notwithstanding the fact that, during the war, his plantation had been rifled of all valuables, and had grown up to weeds. He turned his attention to the culture of cotton, in which he was quite successful and made money. He owned one thousand acres of land, three miles northeast of Meridian, MS. He was considered a self-made man, well posted on general topics of the day, benevolent, charitable, and generous, but not active in politics. ***Is this is stepsister, Sarah Alford Fortson? Some researchers speculate that she married her step brother, William McLemore. If so, this would make her both a stepsister and sister-in-law to Amos. Sarah Alford Fortson, however, was born ca 1837 in Alabama. This would make her around age 43 in 1880. Lauderdale, Mississippi marriage records show a Mrs Mary Fortson and William McLemore marrying on 12 July 1840.

Obituary
R.S. McLemore
Died:--At his home near Wheeling, La., June 15, 1906, R. S. McLemore, age 75 years, 8 months and 24 days.
His remains were interred at Mt. Zion Cemetery June 16.
He died where he and had lived for thirty-nine years, and wehre he reared all his family. His troubles were complicated and either one of them were sufficient to cause death.
The deceased was a true and loving husband and a kind and faithful father. He was a noted Christian, and a peacemaker among men. He was loyal to his country, having served four years in the Confederate Army. God, in his wisdom, saw fit to tak him away, but oh! how sad to part with one so near and dear.
He leaves a wife and ten children and a host of dear friends to mourn his death.

The Burger King: Jim McLamore and the Building of an Empire (1998)
James W. McLemore was born to wealth, but his father lost the family fortune in the stock market crash of 1929 and became a turkey farmer. His mother was committed to a mental hospital shortly thereafter, and he never saw her again, as children were not allowed to visit. As a young man McLamore worked as a restaurant manager and then owner, and in 1954 he became Dave Edgerton's business partner in the first Burger King, originally called Insta Burger King. Three years later McLamore proposed adding a "Whopper" to the menu, basing the recipe on a terrific burger he bought from a competitor's burger stand. Edgerton and McLemore sold the company to Pillsbury in 1967, with McLemore remaining as President. He oversaw the introduction of the first version of the company's iconic "Burger King" advertising character in 1970.
