(Research):Betty Blane Sutton speculates he is the father of her ancestor, George Robert McLemore. She emailed, in February 2012, that George Robert Mclemore was born in 1882 in the South, sometime before 1920 he married Thula (Allie) Willis in OK. They had two children: my mother, Violet Modene Mclemore (April 8 1920 -May 20 1978) and Paul Levithan Mclemore (Sept 17 1924 - Apr 1974) both born in OK. After Thula (1892-1927) died he took the two chldren to Texas where they ended up in a children's home. George returned to OK. In 1946 George ended up in Western State Hospital for 11 years and is buried on there grounds. I have found him in the 1910 and 1920 census, but nothing else.

John David McLemore, a descendant of Britain Sanders McLemore, Sr., emailed in July 2010 that he had a clipping of an obituary of James Sugars McLemore. The clipping was not dated, nor did it reference the paper it was from. He indicated that "James Sugars McLemore (who was a PhD in Philosophy and a professor in Latin and Greek at the University of Virginia and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga) --- was born in Jackson, TN in 1883 but it doesn't say when he died--- I'm guessing it was around 1930 though because it says he was survived by his father [who died in 1934] and it lists his last teaching position hire date as 1928."
His dissertation, published by the University of Virginia in 1917, was entitled "The Tradition of the Latin Accent."

46. | Durant Hunter McLemore (24.Abraham3, 5.Young2, 1.Mary1) was born on 22 Jan 1880 in Bells, Crockett County, Tennessee; died on 1 Oct 1942 in Hempstead County, Arkansas. Notes:
Jeff Loveless shows him as a son of Edward C. McLemore and Ida Manning. Jeff indicated "It looks like Durant's birthday and Edward's [his fathers] wedding were pretty close so I wonder if it might have been a shotgun affair and Durant was sent away to a relative's to avoid a scandal."
However 1880 census shows a Durant McLemore living with an A.M. and Nannie McLemore, and listed as "son." It thereore appears more likely that Durant was instead a son of Dr. Abraham M. and his second wife, Nannie McLemore.
Abraham M. McLemore was not the son of Edward C. McLemore, they were actually second cousins, both descending from Atkins McLemore and Sarah Janes. Dr. Abraham M. McLemore descended from son Abraham and grandson Young, whereas his cousin Edward C. McLemore descended from son Young and grandson Abraham. The similiarity of first names may account for the confusion.

57. | Thomas Barksdale McLemore (35.Britain4, 21.Britain3, 3.Sugars2, 1.Mary1) was born on 29 Apr 1918 in Shelby County, Tennessee; died on 5 Sep 1990 in Trenton, Mercer County, New Jersey. Notes:
According to an email from John David McLemore, his grandfather, Thomas Barksdale McLemore " ----migrated to New York after graduating from Southwestern University at Memphis and receiving a scholarship for his masters degree at Columbia University in Manhattan. He was in WW2 as a lieutenant of a supply transport ship in the Pacific. When he came home he found work as an accountant at Metro Media, the precursor of Fox TV. My dad says that he was well liked there because he knew about computers, which in the 50s and 60s was an extremely new and intimidating technology. He died of a heart attack at his desk in 1990. He loved the outdoors and was an Adirondack 46er, which means he climbed all 46 of the Adirondack Mountains in upper NY. My dad is also a 46er. One day I'll get around to it too I hope. My dad doesn't really know much about the family history as my grandfather was a very quiet man. I think it runs in the family.
Thomas B. McLemore Married 2 times, but I'm not sure of his first wife's name. His second wife was Barbara June Wilson b. 1918 in Oakland,CA (a distant relation to Edna Wilson).
