    Charles was involved in business as a young lad. He helped his father in the meat market, later he clerked at the A.A. HAMOUZ General Merchandise Store. He sold cream separators, served as a substitute mail carrier, and drove the school hack wagon, where he became better acquainted with one of the passengers, Agnes KRISL, whom he later married. Charles clerked for C. J. CERVENY for a number of years before opening his own store in 1913. (Milligan, p 349).

    He graduated from Milligan High School in 1933, later attending the University of Nebraska and Lincoln School of Commerce. He worked for his father in the store. During World War II, he was stationed in England, later being transferred to New Orleans This is where he met his wife, Yvonne. They returned to Milligan, where Adolph ran the Blackbird Grocery Store until 1975, when it was sold. After that, he continued to work in the store as a clerk. He also served on the Milligan School Board for eight years. He had three children: Kenneth, who lives in Lincoln and is a clinical social worker; Gerianne, who lives in Chicago and is an attorney and Carla, who lives and teaches in Vermont.
