    Myrtle Lee Hogue, 81, of Pineland, Texas, passed away on Friday, May 24, 2024 at Stonecreek Nursing Home in San Augustine, Texas. She was born on February 5, 1943, in Hemphill, Texas, to George Washington Kelley and Myrtie Mae Inman Kelley.

    Myrtle earned an associate's degree in nursing and dedicated 35 years as an LVN at Sabine County Hospital before retiring. She also worked at Jasper Memorial Hospital, area nursing homes, and taught CNA classes through Angelina College.

    She worshipped at Broaddus Pentecostal Church and enjoyed raising and taking care of her Longhorn cattle, gardening, crocheting, and caring for people.

    She leaves behind a legacy of love and care. Myrtle is survived by her son, David Hogue of Pineland, daughter, Debora Hogue of Pineland, sisters Terry Gandy and Linda Kelley of Hemphill, grandchildren Kevin Birdwell and partner Stephanie of Arvada, Colorado, Kellie Wiggins and husband Matthew of Anacoco, Louisiana, grandson-in-law Burl Tarver, great-grandchildren Brandon Tarver, Genna Birdwell, and Toby Birdwell.

    She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, L. J. Hogue, parents George and Myrtie Kelley, granddaughter Kimberly Tarver and son-in-law, Kenneth Birdwell.

    Visitation for Myrtle Lee will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, with funeral services following at 2:00 p.m., officiated by Bro. Mark Green at Starr Funeral Home Chapel, 510 Starr Street, Hemphill, Texas.

    Burial will take place in Bronson Cemetery, Bronson, Texas with Tommy Jacks, Brett Fletcher, Rev. Jathan Green, Chris Birdwell, A. J. Wood, Jr., and Gerald Wood serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Kevin Birdwell, Matthew Wiggins, Burl Tarver and Brandon Tarver.
