- In the Affidavit of Mrs. C. D. Gooch, filed on May 25, 1910 in Sabine County, the affiant stated that "she is well acquainted with the family history of Epps D. Payne and Jane C. Payne husband and wife; that Epps Payne and Jane C. Russell were married December 24, 1828 in Selma, Alabama that there were born to said marriage five children to wit: 1) David Russell Payne born 1833 and died 1853, leaving no children; 2) Margaret Emily Payne born 1835 and married John Pye in 1851 and died in 1864 leaving five children to wit: (Mary Jane C. , Eddaline, Rebecca, Josephine and George Ederhard). Mary Pye was born in 1852, married Cat Brown about 1873 and is now residing in Collins County, Texas; Jane C. Pye was born Nov. 8, 1854, married Parrish McDonald about 1872 and is now living in Sabine Parish, Louisiana; Eddaline Pye was born in 1856 March 28, and married Bill Smith about 1875, who was killed about a week after marriage leaving no children, she afterward married Buck Brown, who died leaving one child, she afterward married again whose name she does not know and is now residing in Shelby Co., Texas about two miles from Logansport, La.; Rebecca Josephine Pye, was born January 27, 1859 married a man by the name of Tom Smith and now resides in Grayson County, Texas; George Ederhard Pye was born in 1861 and died in Hill County,Texas about 1869. 3) Jane Eliza Payne was born in 1837 and died in 1853 without marrying and leaving no children; 4) J.P. Payne was born in 1839 and died about 1904, that Jack Payne was married to Ann Gooch in 1861 and the following children were born to them: Epps Payne born in 1862 and died in 1866, Willia E. Payne born in 1864 and was killed about 21 years ago without children, Alice Payne was born 1867 and married Bill Singleton and is now residing in Nacogdoches County, Texas; Marry G. (a girl) was born 1873, married a man by the name of Hodge and now resides in Mt. Enterprise, Panola County, Texas; Birdie Payne born 1874 married Alex Nash and now resides in Shelby County, Texas; Lula Marcella Payne born 1877 married Rosie Browning and now resides in Shelby County, Texas; and James P. Payne born 1881 and now resides in Ark. 5) Caroline E.D. Payne (affiant) was born 1849, married P.D. Gooch near Hemphill August 21, 1862 and now resides with him, her husband P.D. Gooch near Hemphill in Sabine County, Texas, that Epps D. Payne (her father) died October 6, 1840 affieant (sic) further states that her mother Jane C. Payne and the above mentioned Thompson Allen married on the first day of May 1849 and that there was born to said marriage only one child, namely Alfred A. Allen, who was born March 3rd, 1850 and died in January 1860. That they lived together as husband and wife until the death of Thompson Allen in December 17, 1870, that her mother Jane C. Payne died September 24, 1872."
