Notes |
- Ken Harvey speculated that the child spelt "Michel" was probably a boy actually called Michael. The enumerator may have simply left the "a" out of his name. Actually it appears the enumerator probably was writing the name as he heard it "Mich-el" and it was actually the "t" and final "l" that were left out. During the probate of Mary Gentry's estate, he was listed as Cyrus M. Gentry (in 1869). However, in a deed after his father's death, he was listed as Mitchell C. It has been assumed, based both on the census and the later deed, that he was Mitchell Cyrus Gentry.
An 1860 census record, following these notes, show that Mitchell appeared to have married and remained in Missouri through the early 1860's. However, he must have moved to Texas prior to 1862, as Lynell Gentry Cordell found records showing he appeared on Bounty Pay and Receipt Rolls dated 24 June 1862, Camp Stonewall Jackson, Headquarters, 19th Regiment Texas Cavalry (Buford's Regiment), Dallas County.
