- Obituary
Lucian Claremont Brunkow, born on June 25, 1952, in Lincoln, NE, to Claremont Emil Brunkow and Angeline Louise Koca, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2025, at The Grace Space in Lincoln, NE, at the age of 72.
Lucian was the oldest of three children in the Brunkow family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Claremont and Angeline. He is survived by his sister, Lucinda Brunkow of Lincoln, and his brother, Keith (Becky) Brunkow of Firth. His legacy lives on through his cherished nieces and nephews: Kyle (Verdean) Brunkow and their children Hayley, Hanna, Colton, Kallie, and Hunter of Hickman; Hillary (Richard) Liddy and their children William and Abigail of Hickman; Evan (Julia) Brunkow and their children Michael and Oliver of Lincoln; Kendra (Sean) McDonald and their children Myles and Kaysen of Hickman; and Aunt Shirley Brunkow of Milligan, along with numerous cousins.
Lucian graduated from Milligan High School in 1970 and continued his education at Milford Tech, where he earned a degree in automechanics in 1972. Lucian's career journey was marked by an impressive range of skills and achievements. He began as an automechanic in Holdrege, NE, before working as a groundskeeper for Nebraska Game and Parks in Lincoln. Lucian later became an over-the-road truck driver for Trinity Industries, earning the distinguished accomplishment of driving 1 million miles accident-free. However, his most cherished role was as a farmer on the Brunkow family farm, which has been in the family for over 100 years. Lucian's dedication to preserving and nurturing the family's land was a point of great pride and a testament to his hard work and love for tradition.
Lucian's love for sports began in his youth, playing Little League baseball, making the All-Star team, and excelling as a catcher in fast-pitch softball. He later found joy in supporting his younger brother Keith's passion for racing, helping build a sportsman-class race car and dedicating countless hours in the pits during races. In later years, he proudly carried on the tradition by helping his nephew, Kyle, with his Crazy Cruizer race car.
Lucian had a straightforward and no-nonsense demeanor, but beneath that was a kind and gentle heart. Lucian's greatest joy was found in family. He treasured the time spent with his nieces, nephews, and their children, welcoming them to the family farm where he created lasting memories.
Lucian will be remembered for his hard working spirit, deep love for his family, and the enduring legacy he leaves on the Brunkow family farm and in the hearts of those who knew him.
