    • Glen R. Green, Lincoln, NE, formerly of Aurora, NE. age 95, passed away peacefully at his home in assisted living on Monday April 10, 2023. Cremation has been held.

      He was preceded in death by his parents, sister-in-law, Irma Slezak, brother-in-law Robert Slezak both of Crete; brother-in-law Tom Harre of Lincoln.

      Survivors include his beloved wife Melva of 72 years; sons & daughter-in-laws, Jim and Barbara of Lincoln, Brian and Kendra of Lincoln; and daughter Sharon Perry of Murfreesboro, TN., sister-in-law Marilyn Harre of Lincoln;Grandchildren: Natalie Swann, Murfreesboro, TN; Justin R. Vero of Murfreesboro, TN.; Morgan (Dr. J.P.) Rohde of Hendersonville, TN.; Richard (Kim) Green of Denver. CO.; Laura (Evan) Gahan of Overland Park, KS.; Austen Green (Leah) of Lincoln; Stephanie Green of Lincoln, Taylor Green of Lincoln, Taylor Bishop of Lincoln, Trevor Bishop of Lincoln; 11 great-grandchildren, and cousins in Vancouver, Washington

      Glen was born in Council Bluffs, IA. 9/13/27. He grew up on a farm northwest of Osceola, NE. where he attended Dist. 48 country school. He and his mother Wilma Green later moved to York County. He enlisted in the Marines in 1945 but missed combat as the war ended before he completed his training. He served in the Fleet Marines and several land-based posts before returning to civilian life in 1949. He worked for Consumers Public Power District, building rural power lines in Fillmore & Saline Counties. He met his wife, Melva, of 72+ years at the Exeter company office.

      They were married Oct. 21, 1950 in St. Stephens Catholic Church in Exeter. He had remained in the inactive USMC reserves and was one of the first called up to train in CA before fighting in Korea where he was wounded in 1952. Gunnery Sergeant Green was honorably discharged May 1952 and received the Purple Heart.

      He returned to York, NE. to resume work with CPPD (now NPPD). They were blessed with 3 children, James, Sharon & Brian. He was transferred to Osceola in 1955 and was Local Manager for that area until transferred to Aurora in May 1971 and promoted to Area Superintendent. He retired after 41 years with NPPD as a sub-district manager in 1991.
      They enjoyed camping, hunting & fishing with their kids and traveling as a Commissioner for the Cornhusker Boy Scout Council for many years. Glen & Melva traveled to Europe 3 times and enjoyed spending winters in Apache Junction, AZ where they enjoyed dancing, hiking and gold panning.

      He was proud of his Marine Corps service and his Honor Flight from Omaha to DC. He held offices in the American Legion, DAV, VFW, Rotary, Eagles, Chamber of Commerce, Lions and as a 3rd & 4th Degree Knights of Columbus and 25 years as a Eucharistic Minister in AZ & Aurora.

      He was one of the most kind and loved men you will ever meet and will be missed a lot. A man of faith and loved his country and served it well.

      Mass of Christian Burial: Friday, April 14, 2023 at 2:00 PM with Rosary beginning at 1:30 PM at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church (703 Main St. Milligan, NE). Fr. Brendan Kelly will be Celebrating the Mass. Visitation: Thursday, April 13, 2023 from 5-7 PM at Butherus Maser and Love Funeral Home (4040 A Street, Lincoln). Interment with Military Honors following Mass at the Bohemian National Cemetery, Milligan, NE.
