      April 10, 1922 - July 18, 2010

      Dr. Ralph Tillman Green, 88, passed away on July 18th, 2010 in Dallas. Born in Paxton, Texas on April 10, 1922, he graduated from Texas A&M in 1942. After serving in the Navy in WWII, he married Mary Lou Malone on June 20, 1945, and they celebrated 50 years together before her passing in 1996.

      After earning his masters degree at A&M and PhD in Economics from Duke University, he came to work at the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas in 1949. Following a year as chairman of the economics department at Baylor, he was appointed by Governor Alan Shivers to serve as the first Director of the Texas Commission on Higher Education, now the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. He returned to the Federal Reserve in 1962 as Vice President of Research, retiring in 1977 as Vice President and Senior Economic Advisor. From 1983 to 1996, he enjoyed a second career as Assistant Professor of Business at TWU.

      Ralph was a loving husband and devoted father and grandfather. He had a lifelong dedication to learning and enjoyed travel, golf, and computers. He is survived by his daughters, Melissa Farris (Jack) Susan Lambert (John) and Nancy Lunceford (Michael), 7 grandchildren, one sister, and many nieces and nephews.

      A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m, Thursday July 22, 2010 at Sparkman Hillcrest Memorial Park. Memorial service for Dr. Green will be held at Ellis Chapel, Park Cities Baptist Church at 1:00 p.m. on July 22, 2010 with a reception following. Memorials may be made to the Shelby County Historical Society.
