Mary was born June 3, 1845 in Fairfield County, Ohio. Her mother died Feb. 7, 1849 from childbirth in Ohio. Henry and Elizabeth had 2 daus.; Mary Jane, born 1845; and Elizabeth Ann, born in 1849. Mary and Adam's daughter Arabella, married her cousin Charles Reno Smethers, the marriage ending in divorce
