      Doyle's family roots go deep in West Texas, back to the time of Spanish land grants. Doyle was born in Lockney, Texas and grew up near Leakey, Texas.

      Doyle received his B.S. and M.Ed. from Texas State University in San Marcos. Doyle married Jerry Jean Wood, of Beaumont. They had two children. For most of his career, he taught high school history and coached in Beaumont, Texas.

      Doyle loved to fish, hunt, garden, and travel.
