- CAFFEY, JOHN, jr., planter, was born in Rockingham County, North Carolina, September 29, 1786, and died in Montgomery County, January 17, 1873; son of John and Mary (Buchanan) Caffey (q. v.) and brother of Thomas Caffey (q. v.), John Caffey jr., removed with his parents to Montgomery County in its early history. He was a planter and represented Montgomery County in the legislatures of 1842 and l843. Married: (1) Elizabeth Patrick; and (2) Miss Hardeman. Children by first marriage: 1. Hugh Madison, m. (1) Mary Ann Ashnrst, and (2) Matilda Jane Fenn; 2. Hooper Washington, d. unmarried; 3. John Patrick; 4. Margaret S., m. A. J. McLemore. Children: 1. Mary Elizabeth, and 2. Margaret, m. Wm. McGough; 5. Mary Patrick, m. (1) James Harper, and (2) Moses McLemore; 6. Benjamin Franklin, m. (1) Mary Fenn; (2) Caroline vol. m? 11 Baker; and (3) Mrs. Wynne; 7. Lafayette F.; 8. Sarah E., m. (1) Jesse J. Harper; and (2) Boiling H. Thompson; 9. Catherine Elizabeth d. young; by second marriage: 10. Eugene. Last residence: Montgomery County.
Moved to AL about 1828-1830 about same time as brother Thomas, and sometime after brother Charles.
