She had also worked at the "Tomato Stand" at the railroad station, where they boxed tomatoes to be sold and/or shipped on the train. In her later years she worked as a caregiver for several of the elderly or homebound people in the community. One of her greatest gifts was her love for her family and friends. She always enjoyed visiting with them.

She is survived by her daughters, Belva Joyce Stewart of San Augustine and Norma Lynn Mattox and husband Tony of Navasota; son, Don McMurry and wife Delores of Nacogdoches; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; brothers, Winfred Birdwell and wife Vivian and Carl O. Birdwell and wife Helen, all of San Augustine; sister, Margie Nell Hildabrant of Bridge City; sister-in-law, Pauline Birdwell of San Augustine; along with numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.
