Arthur A. Ricker, Former Cass City Businessman, Dies
Mr. Arthur A. Ricker, 71, lifelong resident of this community, died Thursday morning, Nov. 8, at the Stevens Nursing Home where he had been a patient for five months. He had been in ill health for three years.
Mr. Ricker was born in Grant Township, August 18, 1884, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Christopher Ricker.
On April 18, 1908, he married Miss Lillian Striffler in Cass City. Following their marriage, they made their home on the homestead for three years. In 1914, Mr. Ricker started in the meat business, now known as the Patterson Meat Market. He retired from business in 1939 and then maintained homes in Cass City and Florida. He served as secretary of the Cass City school board for a number of years and was an honorary member of the Cass City Rotary Club.
He is survived by his wife, one sister, Mrs. Ulysses G. PARKER of Cass City, and a number of nieces and nephews. One son, six brothers and four sisters preceded him in death.
Mr. Ricker will be at Little's Funeral Home until 12 noon Thursday, when he will be take to the Evangelical United Brethren Church where funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock with Rev. H.I. Voelker and Rev. S. R. Wurtz officiating. Burial will be in the family lot in Elkland Cemetery.

It appears that at least 33 of the 36 adults in this Sunday School class were directly related, through either blood or marriage, to the Striffler, Benkelman and Helwig families who emigrated together from Erie County, New York to Tuscola County, Michigan beginning in the 1860's.
