- As he was the youngest of the family and lost his father at an early age, his mother, Josefa, lived with him. Tom's Dance-Mor Orchestra furnished music for dances from 1942 - 1945. Besides he and his daughter, Darlene, other members were Frank Koahler, Arthur Aksamit, Rudy and Irene Capek, Charles Jirkovsky, Emil Bernasik and Irene Hospodsky. Tom lost his right hand in a corn sheller accident in October 1946, but continued farming. He later retired to Exeter. (Milligan, pp 222 - 223).

- Thomas rented farm land besides his own farm, having as many as four to six teams of horses to farm with. He took pride in his horses and erected a large barn in 1916 which hosted many dances. The children loved to roller skate in the large hay mow in early spring when the hay supply was almost fed and before the summer hay crop was hoisted into the barn through the large door from the hay racks with slings full of hay. Extra farm hands were hired during the busy seasons. Mary also helped farm the many acres, all done with horse-drawn equipment. There was wheat and oats to be shocked and corn to be husked by hand. The smaller children rode along in the wagon in a sheltered corner of the box with warm bricks to keep them cozy at picking time. A combine purchased in 1937 changed harvesting. Erwin and Irene helped drive the tractor pulling the combine while Mary, Dorothy and Darlene scooped grain in the granary. Dorothy and Mary did the milking, a task Irene could never master. Irene was her dad's extra helper in the field. (Milligan, p 223).
