James Lee and Mary Susan's first home was a two-story log house on what is now the Joe Wheeler State Park. In 1909 they bought farm land from John D. Nance and in 1912 built a house which is located on the East side of the Neely Bridge on Lambs Ferry Road in Rogersville. They also owned farm land on what is now Joe Wheeler State Park Golf Course. They were farmers whose main crop was cotton and corn. The McLemores were a religious family who were members of the Methodist Church in Rogersville. They were the parents of: Hettie Lee, Robert Oneal, Osie Josephine, Oliver Clyde, James Tollie, Virta Lucille, Christine Louise and Susie Eloise. The older children attended school in the Williams school, one of the oldest in the Rogersville area.
