- Per "The Southern McGrews Grew" he was a farmer, and drove cattle along the Chisholm Trail. Wynema McGrew writes that he was also an old time Texas lawman and marshal. He died of a bad heart and is buried in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Yoakum, Texas. He and Frances and their three children were living with his parents at the time of the 1880 census.
