    Notes
    • Eileen Bramhall emailed Melinda Strong on June 26, 2003 that: "Mary, my great grandmother is actually a MCKENNA. Her father (don't know his name) was a wealthy man who owned his own plumbing company and was the first to install INSIDE plumbing in NY. He didn't want Mary to marry Thomas Kelly, but she did anyway, obviously, or I guess I wouldn't be here. She came from the the Mckenna and Shanahan family. That's about all I know."
    • (Research):This MAY be Mary with her family in 1880 and 1900. It is possible that the family in 1880 and 1900 are differing families, based on the location of Margaret's location of birth in 1880 vs. 1900. Also, son Thomas, born March 1879, is not listed with the family in 1880.

Additionally, based on the fact that Mary Killy/Kelly is shown to have parents born in Germany in 1900, she may not be the same Mary McKenna that married Thomas J. Kelley around 1900/1901 in New York.

Thomas A. McKenna is listed as the son of Margaret McKenna, whereas Mary Killy is listed simply as a boarder. However, when Thomas McKenna registered for the draft during the First World War, circa 1917, he listed his nearest relative as Mary Kelly.

When Thomas Andrew McKenna registered for the draft during World War I, he was a resident of 2811 8 Ave NY, and his occupation was listed as Plaster, but he was not currently employed. His date of birth was shown as 29 Mar 1879, and his nearest relative was Mary Kelly of the same address. He was of Medium heigth and build, with blue eyes and black hair.

Additionally, the following birth Certificate can be found for Thomas McKenna:

It also appears that John Shannon, who was boarding with the family in 1910, is likely the brother of the widowed Margaret McKenna. The birth certificate, above, for Thomas McKenna shows his mother as Margaret Shannon McKenna. John Shannon's parents were born in the same places as Margaret's, and he immigrated to the US in the same year. Eileen Bramhall Hav? also stated that her great grandmother, Mary McKenna, came from the "Mckenna and Shanahan families." The 1905 New York State Census lists a family in Manhattan consisting of Margaret McKenna, age 49, Thos. McKenna, age 26, and John Shannahan, age 39. New York; State Population Census Schedules, 1905; Election District: A.D. 23 E.D. 25; City: Manhattan; County: New York; Page: 35.

A birth certificate for Andrew W. McKenna, born 17 Dec 1882 in Manhattan, New York, was also located, and also showed parents as Andrew McKenna and Margarat Shannon. He is not listed with the family in 1900 and likely died, as Margaret was shown in 1900 as having given birth to six children in total, with only two still living.
