    Notes 
    • The History of Sabine Parish, Louisiana (author John Belisle, The Sabine Banner Press, 1912) states that "in 1860 the white population of Sabine Parish numbers about four thousant, and there were less than two thousand slaves. There were few really wealthy people in the parish, and many owned not more than one of two slaves." The owners of six or more in 1861 included Jesse Wright.

    • After Milbery's death, Jesse remarried Sarah Miller. In January 1873, Jesse's former stepson, John Overton Anthony filed a petition against Thomas Miller, a brother to Sarah Miller Wright for property owned by his late mother worth $469. When Jesse Wright died, he had left his entire estate to Sarah. Thomas Miller was the executor. The court ordered that the monies be paid. (Casagranda)
