- Milo attended country school in District #96 and #59 until he had to quit to help on the family farm. As a young man, he and his brother Fred hand picked corn over several harvest seasons on Iowa. Milo was drafted into the Army in 1942, and was stationed at Camp Adair, Oregon. After his honorable discharge in 1943, he returned to farming. He also sold seed corn for NC+ seeds for 28 years. (Milligan, 1988-2008, p. 106).

- Fred and Frances started married life on his father's farm in Section 10 of Atlanta Precinct in Saline County, where all his children were born. His children all graduated from the eighth grade in rural school district #59 of Saline County (Milligan, p 190).

- They first met at a dance at Sokol Hall in Wilber in 1942, and were married a few years later, after Milo served in the armed forces during World War II. They enjoyed dancing and polka music throughout their married live. (Milligan, 1988-2008, p. 106).
