Notes |
- Vaclav and Marie Kosa Bulin circa 1868, settling first with relatives in Yuba, Wisconsin. Vaclav was a builder and cabinent maker. While in Wisconsin, they had twin boys and a baby girl. They moved to Glengary Township in the winter of 1878. There they came to live with Jan Kotas, Marie Bulin's uncle who lived in a sod hut near Milligan. Vaclav built the church on the north cemetery, for which Jan Kotas donated the lumber. Vaclav bought 160 acres, SE 1/4 Section 13 Glengary Township, Railroad Land, near Milligan.
In the spring of 1888, the blizzard year, the five children of Vaclav and Marie Bulin took sick with diptheria. Three children died within a week, Mary age nine and the twin boys, Frank and Joe, age seven. It is said that a lady from Strang heard of the disease and came in her buggy, and treated the children "with a powder." The children stopped dying and the two who survived were W. J. and Albert Bulin. (Milligan, pp 214 - 215)
The 1900 census indicates they also had a son John, born ca Dec 1879 who was still living in their home. Additionally, Mary was shown as the mother of 6 children in total, three still living.
