Notes |
- Email from Bettye Bragg Wagstaff:
Susan Blackburn was the daughter of Alexander S. Blackburn and his second wife, Martha Cole.
I have been in touch with a Bickham descendant, and she gave me info on the Bickhams. It seems that Susan and her parents moved to Louisiana (Can't remember the parish right now) where Alexander died and Susan married an unknown Bickham just before the Civil War. Evidently this Bickham was killed in the war, because she then married James Bailey (AKA Baylie) and they came to Texas bringing her two Bickham children and her mother Martha Blackburn. They settled in Sabine County and had several Bailey children. James Bailey did not appear on the census after 1870 so I just assumed he died. Wrong! According to the many Bailey descendents living around here today, James just went back to Louisiana, found him another woman and raised another family. The Bickham children were Hardy Alexander Bickham and Zurada. Hardy is buried in the Rosevine Cemetery and Zurada in Bronson. I have been trying to find out who is buried beside Zurada. No luck so far.
Susan's mother, Martha is buried in Brookland, she died in 1889 while living there with grand- children.
Jackie Bickham writes that Susan Blackburn and her second husband Jasper Newton Bailey were the parents of 1.Hope Bailey 2.Sedonia Bailey 3.Trust Bailey 4.James Franklin Bailey
